Hi,

If you have valid mot and insurance can you drive to the post office to buy tax disc ? normally i do it online but i dont have the v5 / tax reminder so cant. I just have the insurance / mot and v5 supplement.

Thanks

It is crazy though isnt it? I mean you cant tax a car online unless you have the V5 or tax reminder. Well if you have just purchased the car you wont have either. So its Saturday at 6 and post offices doesnt open till Monday. Would be so much easier if you could just use a number off the v5 supplement online.

It ran out before I purcahsed car ~ thinking about it could have just given the money to the seller and asked them to do it online but I just didnt think at the time

I would drive it there without thinking in the past but with the increasing ANPR systems its not without risk. I just thought if you could prove you were purchasing a tax disc on that day (e.g. produce it at the police station later that day or something) then they would let you off, but no doubt this is not the case :(

I got lucky, i drove my car from the dealer under the assumption it was taxed (said long tax and MOT on the ad). Got home, after 30 miles or so to realise it was out by 3 months :o. MOT was long though, got till August :D BTW theres an idiot at work who ran out in NOV 07 and still has'nt taxed it, lucky sod is all i can say.

surely if it ain't taxed, it ain't insured and if it ain't insured that's potentially 6 points and an offence code insurers really bend you over for?

I was caught without tax a looooooong time ago (10 years+) and it was just a fine and a producer but are they hotter now?

Wouldn't chance it for the sake of a stroll which is probably what it is to a tax PO, you lot are talking like its a trip to swansea.

You don't need tax to insure a car. I ran around for a month with out of date tax. OMG child killaaah! no body will bother now. just make sure you park it so no one would 'notice' and I when I picked up my tax disc from the post office I parked right in front of a police van. They didn't say anything. They probably didn't notice. Do people really go round examing tax discs? (Actually i can't help myself I do it sometimes)
