D40 with sb400 flash attached slipped out of hand onto hard wooden floor...
Now left with massive crack all around internal flash, and spent the day figuring out if I can fix anything... unfortunately there's a broken connection which is nigh on imposssible to solder back.
Also shocked myself 3 times on the metal contacts of the flash, high voltage does not feel good!

Good news: Everything works apart from the internal flash. Lens is also fine.
Bad news: external flash (sb400) fires but doesn't seem to sync propoerly with the shutter leaving underexposed images.

So I'm gonna live without flash for a while. Any tips?

Doesn't look good mate. I take it the camera isn't under warranty ? Even if not, you can still send it into a Nikon certified repair dealer, and if the estimated repair cost is too high then you can always opt out.

I think I will ask for a quote, but the cost will probably be too much unfortunately..

I've dropped my old D40 numerous times. Did you drop that out of a building block?!

It was only dropped about 30cm onto a hard wooden floor...

I dropped it with the Sb400 flash attached which is what caused most of the damage (cracked top case, and broken connecitons within). The picture shows it worse than it is, because I have unscrewed part of the case to take a better look at the damage inside.
