Been driving 2 years, in that time i have driven a fair few cars, all petrol N/A apart from 2 breif goes in a Petrol Turbo.

Was a Rover 220 Turbo Diesel (bubble shape) that i will be using to save me money on fuel driving to work from beginning of april onwards, and it was totally the opposite of what i expected. That being loads of torque low down, but theres nothing there until well after 2.5k RPM, aint too bad between 3-3.5k then it seems to all drop off again.

Feels like i have to rag the arse off the car to make it move, which is the total opposite of what i expected, when i pulled off the drive i even double checked i was in 1st and not 2nd or 3rd :(

Supposed to be 103BHp @ 4200 RPM
155Lb/ft @ 2000 RPM

I hear of this "Screw Mod" that people do with Pug 306's, is there anything similar that can be done here?

Think that engine can be taken to around 130bhp with a tuning box.

Not that powerful a engine, but should be ok low down. Possibly a dodgy maf, clogged air filter or turbo on the way out.

It drinks fuel :( , hence the Rover 220 for work.

Dont wanna spend much at all on it.

Air filter is fine, wouldn't a dodgy MAF throw the emissions out a bit? was MOT'd yesterday & all came back fine.

Know how you feel.

I had to take the company Audi A2 1.4 Diesel the other week, and it was the 1st time I'd driven a diesel for over 2 years.

Tried to pull away at a junction and nothing happened, second later we had a bit of power...ohh starting to feel it a bit now and change gear...back to nothing.

I'll stick to my petrol thanks. :p

The Rover is an old-skool DI engine so that sounds about right. My mid 90s 306 DTurbo with the old XUD lump started to boost from around 1800rpm, hit it's stride at around 2300rpm and ran out of breath by 4000rpm. The newer common rail or unit injector engines like my current TDI PD are much better - boost from 1400rpm, full boost by 1800rpm and it quite happy to rev to the governor at 5000rpm. I tend to use between 1800 and 3000rpm most of the time and that still gives me plenty of scope to miss out gears.

VTEC - Pah! I prefer Turbo lag and a bit dollop of soot (preferably all over the BMW that's tailgating me!)
