Drunk driver tries to bribe police with dead fish

It's the tropical heat; melts their brains. :p
One of there news stories was about a dog eating a g string awhile back:p
Strange stuff happens up there in the news:p

I also like the one we have now. But when we become a republic, I hope we get a different flag. I'd be happy with the one in my sig, or something similar.

Id be a sad day when that happens.
IMO even if it does happen the current flag represents our history as a nation and should be left the same.:)

No. The last referendum did not ask if people wanted a republic. It asked if people wanted a republic with a President appointed by Parliament. Therefore, if you answered "yes" to the question, you were committed to the specific republican model presented by the question. The question did not allow for any alternatives.

Monarchists obviously voted "No" to this question. But so did many republicans, since not every republican subscribes to the same republican model. So the result of the referendum did not tell us how many people wanted a republic. It simply told us how many people wanted a specific type of republic.

Fortunately our current Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) has promised that Australia will become a republic, so it is now only a matter of time.

We did.

No. There has only been one republican referendum, and that referendum was carefully worded in order to achieve a certain result (see above). It was a bit like saying "We're going to hold a referendum on the abolition of the monarchy" and then asking "Do you want Queen Elizabeth to remain Queen, or do you want her to abdicate in favour of Prince Charles?"

We are in Deep deep trouble once Chales becomes king though:(

Why? What difference will that make to us? He'll just be a meaningless figurehead, like QEII.

Of course he does; he's a politician. And he'll break a lot of those promises. But he's also a republican from way back, so I think he's committed to this one.

Ah... ;)

Hopefully the Liberals can find a leader that can stand up and lead and he will be gone before he can:)

He must have thought he was a dab hand at fooling the police, but in this particualar incident he was in the wrong plaice at the wrong time. Perhaps now he'll seek kelp to stop drinking and put his heart and sole into becoming a better man.
