box of goodies from ocuk arrived this morning :D

DS3, e6300 and 2gb of Geil RAM.

Built the system up, and it won't post. :(

Nothing else bar the GFX (GT6600), e6300 and 2gb geil ram in there.

It'll power on ok, and turn off if you hold the button. The HDD and power LEDs remain on constant when the system is switched on. The keyboard lights flash when the PSU is swtiched on. But are unresponsive when the system is switched on.

Not really sure what else i can do :(

Have you got a speaker attached and if so - can you hear any beeps when it boots up?

not got the speaker to hand, but will rob it out my housemates system later.

same with the ram.

Got any 1.8v standard spec RAM laying about? sometimes with the DS3 boards you need to start up with the standardised RAM and set the voltage and timings for the higher spec RAM for it to boot, i still have to do this after many BIOSes with my DS3 and G Skill HX 6400 if i had to clear BIOS for any reason.

ok. just tried a single stick of known working 'normal' ram. didnt work.

tried it in all 4 slots. didn't work.

tried a new graphics card in there. didn't work.

only the CPU left to swap out.

PSU is a Tagan 480w. It should be enough to work shouldn't it. Or at least post. its not like its running anything else.

shorting

I have seen quite a few posts of people finding that spare riser screws are shorting the board out, remove your board and check. Also try insulating the ones that you are using if you can, use those little red cardboard rings on both sides and see if that helps.

Good luck. I have a DS3 and I love mine. I am glad I never had issues.

retail

well after much farting about, it posts. It was my PSU. I thought it was good enough, but the generic one that came free with a cheap case is doing a better job!!

Then I would have to suggest it's broken in some way, as Tagan are a really decent brand and it should be ample for that job. It's probably a bad connection in the main power connector of something.

i built this new system because my old one stopped posting. i wonder if it was the PSU all along.. i never tested it because i didnt think it'd break - being a tagen.

I have to admit, my first reaction was  but as the guy says, it's a Tagan and those are usually totally solid.

But then, I have this slight problem with his sig, as it probably ought to read "I wish both my girlfriends were bisexual" ;)
