Hi all

I have the system as per my sig, and I am really disappointed with the MB as every thing I do with regards to OC, the MB (even setting RAM correctly)always reverts back to standard.

Also I am not happy with the AC7, idle temps around 45, load temps 58 and thats before OC !!!

So I am considering a new MB and cooler, cooler wise looking at Tuniq Tower but not sure with MB

Looking at X38 , or an excellent P35 just not GB as I am not convinced, your advice will be appreciated.

One final point what is the best way to get to 250 posts as I would like to sell my MB via MM ???

Thanks and I bow to your superior knowledge ;)

What have you tried with that motherboard? It may need +0.1 to the FSB and MCH voltages

Naud

Hi Naud

I have tried several things including voltages, but if someone can assist in anything I have done wrong !!! I have manually set up the RAM (4,4,4,12) and incresing volts by.3 and the ram divider to 2.4 but even that wont work !!!

Is anyone intrested in coming round and showing what I have done wrong and what I should be doing ????

P965 or P35 version?

And are you running a recent BIOS version?

Hi Cob

Its the p35 version, and yes the bios are up to date, thanks for helping in setting up the RAM but as you now see it has all gone back to standard and wont hold any clocking at all :(

UPDATE, Bios is F9, I have again tried the ram settings and now it seems to have kept them so back at 4,4,4,12, multiplier @x2.0, FSB/DRM is 1:1

Seeing as the ac7 is not up to it, I am going to change the cooler, going for the TT thats on special this week. Whats the point of having a G0 quad if you cant clock it !!!!

Will let you know if it is any cooler, if so will be able to start possibly OCing if the MB behaves.
Cob you seem to be a knowledgable gentleman, would I be right in OC by changing the FSB ( I think) first ie 266 to 300 so that would increase it to 2.7ghz. I am looking at about a 3.2 or 3.4 , and should I do any other timings to the RAM ???

What I did was slacken off the RAM timings or leave them on Auto, then set the FSB to 333, multiplier to 9 and set the memory multiplier to 2.4. Run up Prime95 and check for stability. If Prime95 fails on a particular core then up the vCore a notch till it's stable. Me personally I then went from 333 to 400 FSB and a multiplier of 8, ram multiplier set to 2. I then had to up the vCore to 1.3v in the BIOS to get my CPU Prime95 stable. I've not had the chance to move beyond this yet generally you don't want to be stressing the RAM whilst you're trying to determine the overclock limits of the CPU and vice versa.

Thanks Iamateaf when I get my TT tomorrow(:D) I will fit this weekend and then check my temps, if the temps are ok then I will start to OC.

I will update you all and keep you informed, thanks for the advice and help given so far. :)

Right TT fitted and my idle temps have gone from 45 to 36, yippeee !! quick question though which setting under BIOs do I have the fan set? and will these temps drop further when the AS5 has settled in?

UPDATE****

I really should edit the title as its FANTASTIC !! (IMO)

Right for those interested my idle is 45 ave, under load with Prime95 with small FTT is 70 ave, hold up wait for it..........with a 3.2 ghz clock YES!!!!!!

How did I do it???? With the help of the people above and reading several threads.

Right now the detailed stuff, if someone can just check this for me and let me know if I need to increase CPU volts. I have stress tested for over 2 hours with no errors.

so 400 with 8x, mch volt +.1v, FSB +.1V, ram 4,4,4,12 with +.3v.

I must THANK all people who haved helped me with my first PC build and now my first OC.

This is a fantastic site/ forum......I am really pleased....can you tell !!!!!

I would take it off Auto and set it manually. Auto usually pushes the voltage higher than is needed.

Probably best to start by seeing what CPU-Z says the idle voltage currently is, and add maybe 0.025v to that reading (to compensate for vdroop). Set the BIOS to that and (in theory atleast) the voltage should now be lower in Windows than it was with the Auto setting. If it's unstable just up the voltage a notch or two and try again.

Once again Cob, Thank you ;)
