Dual 7970 3GB or Dual 680 2GB?

yer at 1080 the 680 tears through everything, which is pretty bad ass for a single card. Doesn't fair to well at 1440p though.

How bad does it look when you drop to 1080? Also don't quote me on this but I think the 7970 performs just that little bit better than the 680 at higher resolutions. However you can easily clock a 680 to 1Ghz or over.

This is what I'm hearing all over the place, Nvidia drivers simply aren't mature yet: Released to early to compete with AMD?

I've settled with the 7970, price is cheaper, has more VRAM and will OC plenty under water. Thanks guys.

The last two betas have been perfect.

Fixed the stutter which I only saw in one game, that being Metro 2033.

Ahhh fantastic, I also realised a minute ago I bought the 7970's which are three slots wide, good job I got a new USB headset as my soundcard is now going on a shelf :D

Gaming on a Dell 27" screen and already with dual 5970 2GB cards I'm hitting a VRAM wall. Can't decide between these two cards as both are great performers but VRAM is a major decider for me.

Just wanted to get some opinions on them, just to note I will be upgrading to triple/quad cards in the future when I get more dell screens.

You will have to think again about triple/quad crossfire with triple slot cards. Even if you find a mobo that will take 3 cards you may run into heat problems.

Oh, 7970's The additional VRAM and lower price made the decision for me, got to factor in the cost of water blocks too.

I do not know a lot about HD 7970s but can you get waterblocks for the model you have chosen.

The point of my post is that you seem to be going in several different directions.

The two cards I purchased will have water blocks fitted to them, however I ordered the triple slot version of the 7970 by mistake and I'm unsure if it is a reference design board.

you can use the EK configuration tool on the EK website to check (do a google) to see if your 7970 cards are reference or not.

Decided to send them back and go for the Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB card instead. Pretty sure its reference but if anyone can confirm would be fantastic
