Just got these set up, First question is, How do I span my desktop accross both without it A) Opening windows bang in the middle and B) Without it looking a funny resolution.

Secondly, Out of the Box one has a Black Dead Pixel... Is there anything I Can do?
 
Are you using an nvidia card? Go in to display properties, settings and click on the secondary monitor and tick the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor." if it doesn't let you you might need to go in to "Advanced", click on your graphics card tab (mine says Geforce 6600 GT), and click on "nView display settings", under "nView Display Mode" select "Dual view".

Not sure about the black pixel.
 
Have you tried 'massaging' the dead pixel with your finger? Or running something that will go through lots of colour changes in a short space of time - flashing colours kinda thing?

Either might 'wake' the pixel...
