hi people,
it seems a few people in here have dual monitor setups...so im wondering....i have a spare crt monitor lying around and was thinking of hooking it up to the x1800 xt in the pc. what i would like to do is use the primary monitor as normal but use the second one just for desktop use, instead of alt-tabbing out of games etc i can use the second one to change gfx settings etc (in atis ccc) and monitor usage etc....is this possible? and easy to do?
any help/info much appreciated,
steve.

i don't actually think its possible, i play games on one screen and although the second screen is showing the desktop, you have to minimise the game to be able to work with the second screen. You can only see what's happening on the second screen and that's it, for example seeing chat messages on msn... if you want to type the game gets minimised.

Probably, but I would have thought if you are changing CCC settings, most games would need to be restarted anyway for the changes to take effect. I could be completely wrong though.

oh :-( thats a shame.....
get sick of alt-tabbing to set affinity etc or ctrl-alt-del before the game starts! was thinking it would be kinda good just to be able to do it on the other monitor :-(
thanks for the quick replies,
steve.

i reckon thats possible, i just don't like the idea of playing windowed games... i play CSS in full screen but its possible to play it windowed at max res, but it cuts a part off, unless you hide the taskbar, you'll just have to activate the console in game then click on the second monitor, and it will be fine.

I have managed to do this with EVE. But its so laggy, its like the card is not in 3D speed.

I use ATI tool to set the speeds, so I force it in to 3D. But its still laggy.

Any one have any ideas to help.

i can help you with eve: start the game and press escape. go to the graphics tab, on the display adapter if you drop the box down you should notice you can select a 'secondary' display adapter (make sure second monitor is attached and up and runnning b4 starting the game)

use the secondary adapter for your 2nd monitor.

in 90% of cases this is all you need to do; but i have found that there is a small zone where the window is, where it can be perfect or very bad.

its hard to describe--i recommend doing this.use fraps--even the demo will do, and have the fps counter running constantly.

you will notice by moving the secondary window up by a very small amount, can mean the difference between dual screen joy, and twinned hell.

once you become used to the exact position of the window forget the fraps.

hope this helps !!!
