Behind you... Naked!
Doen this and it seems to be absolutely fine, however, I have hit paranoia mode and its on full throttle.

This is what I have done :-

PSU 1 = Connected to Motherboard, and GFX

PSU 2 = Connected to all HDs and DVDRW Drives

Now, what I have simply done, is connected the single GREEN wire from the ATX connector on PSU 1 and plonked it directly into the same GREEN wire on PSU 2, plus I have also taken a BLACK wire from PSU 1 to PSU 2 too.

The actual ATX connector off PSU 2, is simply NOT connected to anything.

This I did ONLY because I found out that if you short the green with a black, you will in effect, turn an ATX PSU on, and this is what I did to cure my old Atari ST many moons ago.

The worry anyway, is safety

If I could afford one of those, I would not be needing to join 2 together Im afraid.

I liked the link in the sig though... Id have a go but its obvious, that whoever wins, is someone who can afford to but one anyway, so I wont waste my time.

That said, I have done some googling on this OC link and it seems that there are some dangers regarding mixing 2 PSUs together like I seemed to have done?

Not sure why because as I said, I have shorted the GRN+BLK on an ATX PSU for my old ST many years ago and it ran perfectly fine, I then did the same for my Atari TT and indeed, I still own that TT and its still running off a modified PC ATX PSU with PTM/PTB switch, and as for the Dual PSU Mod, thats not exactly mixing the wires at all is it?

I best remove it then I suppose?

A full spec would help here including PSU's, as it seems strange to do the motherboard and gpu off the one psu, as they are the most power hungry components, unless its not a great gpu?
I'm guessing you have lots of HDD's and DVD drives?

Well, its really only a toy idea to be honest.

I am re-settign up my Server to be a proper server once again.

Its only real use right now, as a server, is WinAmp... Its just sat there playing some music while I mess about on other stuff.

This is a shame because its not a bad PC...

Saphire Pure Black Mobo
I7-980 CPU ( 12 Threads )
6x4GB Mushkin ( 24GB )
2xCorsair 120GB SSD ( C: )
4x4TB WD RAID 0+1
4xBDRW

The GFX is only a half sized 7770 Radeon so not a powerful card but I am not playing games on it so its fine.

Like I said, its only playing Music right now, but I have done a nice fresh install and setup the RAID with 4 new HDs and its ready to be a proper server again and I am backing up my NAS Drives to it later on.

It currently has a 700w Corsair in it and thats fine, its doing ok, but I bought a 500w corsair and thought sod it, why not plonk it in there.

The other idea is simply that the prices of PSUs go up ridiculously as the power goes up.

For example, ( and we can argue details later on, but for now... )

You get a 1200w PSU - how much is it? £200 ?

Ok, how much is a pair of 600w PSUs? - half that price? - or maybe not half, but certainly not a whole £200

So the way I see, it, 2 PSUs are far, far better value than one.

Another way to look at it, is that I have 1100w of quality ( Corsair ) power supply thats cost me under £120

How much is that equivalent in a single unit?

Admittedly, do I need that much power ? Not really!

My main PC is a far higher spec system, and thats only running a single PSU with a hell of a higher spec GFX - In fact I was plonking about with SLI and it was fine there but I dont play games that require high end GFX... Dawn of War and Trials Evolution / Fusion are my bag at the moment. and they all play just fine on the 470GTX and even thats more than enough for me.

The 600 on its own is fine.

HOWEVER...

When folding ( I stopped folding about a year and a half ago, but saw I was in the top 100 still and so I thought bugger it I will carry on ) and the CPU is at 100% and it starts chugging away at the HDs when I burn a couple of disks then it starts to crawl. Using both PSUs has stopped that, so the 600 is borderline on its own.

Sure, I suppose then I could simply plop an 800 or 850 in and that will give me enough and a smidge extra if needed, but that means buying another PSU but why if I already have these ? LOL ( Answer for everything, but then we are going off the original post anyway )
