Dual Shock 3 ?

Personaly i'm dissapointed they did not take this oppertunity to re-design the controler from the ground up properly.

For me without doubt the PS shape and layout is the worst there is out there. Its akward to use the thumbsticks and they obstruct the start/select buttons. The d-pad is not even that good considering its central positioning. Hopefully they have atleast beefed up the weight of it.

If the PS pad is so poor then why did MS and Nintendo model their controllers on the shape of it? They are effectively the same controller just with very small modifications.

TBH i dont think the PS controller has been bettered and is the only controller i like playing with.

And you do know that the ps pad does look very much like the oringal snes pad with a couple of handles and 2 analogue sticks slapped onto it?

Eh? MS and Nintendo controllers are modelled on the Sega Dreamcast from the looks of it.

I think he meant the fact they had dual analogue sticks first and 4 shoulder buttons as standard. (I think). Certainly the MS one is the same, just with moved around second analogue stick/dpad. No idea regarding the Nintendo controller reference though.

And put in proper triggers instead of buttons :)

Mine arrived this morning, this prove that the express postage works, an entire week later than msmalls74's.

I have to say i'm a lot more impressed than I thought I would be, whatever they have done to the sticks works a treat, far easier to aim.

I've stuck my thoughts on my blog if anyones interested.

Ah ha! SO you admit it now! Kinda... :p.
Glad you're enjoying it matey. Really fancy one myself, unfortunately I'm utter skint and I have to pay for transport to Oxford now (there and back + possible hotel :/).

I do admit it in a way mate, I hadn't really noticed until I got the DS3.

It's like everything though, you don't notice until its improved, I still don't have any problems with the Sixaxis, this is a decent improvement though.

Enjoy Oxford! :)

Can you still feel the plasticky join where the two halves come together? When I'm wrestling with my SIXAXIS on some games, it feels like the controllers going to come to pieces at times.

I know what you mean, and no this doesn't happen on the DS3, the build quality is so much better.

Mine did come apart by quite a bit of a gap, I tightened the screw and it stripped the head, so when I contacted Sony about it they claimed I invalidated my warranty by tightening (or trying to) the screw.

So I'm stuck with it :/.

Mine has finally arrived today it was sent out on the 22nd so not bad, I'm glad I held off playing Uncharted I was starting to crack under the pressure of having it right in front of me :)

Nokkon, why do you keep entering PS3 threads to try and start arguments?

The thing is:

Nokkon is 100% factually correct. The dead zones on the PS3 sticks are dreadful, and they absolutely needed a fix. It isn't a game-breaking flaw or anything, but it is extremely annoying.

He's also correct that the pads are perhaps a tad overpriced. They're a couple of quid more expensive than the 360 pads, despite being of inferior build quality. Furthermore, they are based on a decade old design, and the original design was made in an age where everybody used the D-Pad for games. When the Playstation 3 first showed up at E3 2005, it appeared to be using a new "boomerang" esque pad, however, in E3 2006 they just sort of reverted to the old-skool design.

The boomerang design did look gay though didnt it. :)

I think the dual shock control would be good if the d-pad and the left analog stick switched places.

I have had a ps1 when they came out, and had a ps2 when they come out (very lucky :D) , so obviously I was used to the dual shock control. But when I got my hands on the original xbox control s (the 2nd revision xbox control) it was beautiful to play with.

The xbox 360 control bettered that, and its so comfortable to use - its great :D

Sorting the deadzone interests me far more than the inclusion of rumble. For years the analogue sticks on the dual shock pads have bugged me - monkey ball, fps, and basically anything else that requires precise movement/aiming, has suffered.

Sounds good then. I ordered mine this morning. Despatch date is Wednesday, with express delivery may arrive by Friday in time for the weekend.
