Back again :)

Right the celeron d processor (Dual core 2.66ghz) Was running at 47 degress idle and 53 degrees loaded

I overclocked it by 5% so its now at 2.79ghz/2.80ghz not sure why one core is slightly slower but hey,

Now i had the choice whether to allow my MOBO to overclock it and change settings automatically or whether i changed then my self.

I upped the fsb by 5% and booted into windows. I have passed the SP2004 tests but temps reaching 60 degrees loaded??????

Any ideas or how to get that coller and does my idle temps sound right? If not could it be i have a dodgy chip?

If its ok how far can i go and should i let my mobo overclock it for me?

Thanks

What CPU cooler you using, stock cooler then the temps are about right, if you are using an after market cooler like the scythe or AC7 then I would say those temps are little high.

Im using the stock cooler.

I am thinking of fiting 2 120mm fans to the case, improving the air flow a little and using a better cooler?

Any good recommendations?

Budget, lets say 35-40 for 2 120mm fans and a decent cooler, any anything else u thinkll help, im willing to go further sayu 80 if its worth it ;) SPEC ME :D

cheers shr3k

Thats one of the hottest chips ever made so those temps are normal.

Youve not mentioned your motherboard so no idea how far you will be able to overclock, 100% is possible but 50% would ambitious as you can see allready

100%? 50% wtf? Anyway io was looking more 20-40% lol,

I have an asus deluxe motherboard, but its the temps that are the problem not the board:)

Thanks Shr3k

100%... lol

You really think 5333mhz is possible? Had my 805 at 4ghz, which is 50%, and it booted into windows at 4.3ghz

These chips are exceedingly hot, and i used a zalman cnps9500 to cool mine, and if you currently have no fans in you case, get some, the heat will just build up otherwise.. I like my silenX fans, but they aint the cheapest :)

Yea before conroe everyone was going crazy about these, I even had one myself and I think someone got 100% but maybe I remember wrong. My best was something like 3.8ghz but it ran so hot it was not stable, holding my hand out the back of the case was litterally like a fan heater.

edit:
turns out I was wrong, its actually 6ghz

5.5GHz with an 805 isn't unknown using phase cooling. The high multiplier and low starting FSB make it quite easy to approach 4GHz as long as you can cool the CPU, which is beyond most ordinary coolers.

shr3k,

i will guide you through the list of coolers for the cpu, when im over tomorow :P

there is no need to add aditional fans as u allready have enough in realy.

what happend to the cooler?? it was running at about 30 last time :S

and instead of adding more fans, you might want to tidy the cables up a bit more. we should have done it when we built your computer, but it was about 3am when we got it all up and running :S

dont worry though im sure we will be able to get your overclocking hit that you soo eagerly need :P

Jackassuk56 (aka Alex) (Me best m8 :D)

Cheers for that and ive tidied the cables abit/

To every1 else, I tidied the cables and i made some cardboard ducting lol, tempory tioll i can get some plastic :D (Will look in the garage tomorrow)

Idle temps now at 38 degrees and 44 loaded :O Just with a simple tidy and some cardboard ducting lol,

Ill get a better cooler then start to overclock the little beauty. Im thinking of bitting the bullet and instead of my original plan to build a new pc start to mod this one out a bit. May get to water cooling in a few months but never tried it so we will have to see. :D

Cheers for the help,

Shr3k
