Duff mobo on new build?

Firstly, apologies for my first post being a 'help, I can't build a PC' but I read a lot on this forum first on what to spec for £600 for a 'reasonable' PC. I've ordered all me bits from good old dabs and set about assembling (I've built a couple of PC's before).
Using a gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo as a base I've built it up using an intel core 2 quad Q6600, 2x2gb sticks of Ocztech PC2-6400 DDR2 ram, MSI GeFord 8800GT graphics, Akasa heatsink etc
Upon first booting all I get is the 3 fans (PSU, Graphics and CPU) just 'kicking' over i.e it starts for about 0.2 of a second. If you repeatadly press the button it starts to go into boot but all that happens is that the fans start up, HDD's get going and that's about it. Also, if you disconnect the smaller of the smaller of the 12V connectors (square one) then it fires up but only to the point just before you expect to here the beep. No output from the graphics so can't really go anywhere. I've reset the CMOS, taken the battery out (and checked it) and then I've rebuilt on the bench using the bare minimum (mobo, ram, graphics, cpu/fan, HDD and PSU). Exactly the same situation i.e just kicks over for a split second and then nothing.
I've checked the ram and graphics in my current pc and they are fine so it likely to be a duff CPU/Mobo? I've mailed Gigabyte tech support last week but they haven't replied yet. Had a good old search around on 'tinternet as well and haven't found anything similar...
Anyone on here encountered this? I want to get this built so I can start winding it up a bit!

Any help appreciated
regards
Ben

Remove the competitor name in the original post.

Make sure you've got the 24-pin PLUS the 4-pin connectors from the PSU going into the mainboard. Remove your VGA card and reseat it firmly. Put a single stick of RAM in the unit, and only boot using that. Plug the kettle lead into the system so the LED comes on the mainboard and wait 5 minutes before you try the on button.

Believe or not, I did my original seaching about overclocking via google and came straight to the forum i,e I didn't even realise this forum was affiliated to a company. So, yes, sorry...bit naive maybe

PSU is a Corsair HX520W which looked reasonably specced for my initial wants.

I've tried booting with single stick of ram (both of them) in all 4 slots to no avail

Plug the kettle lead into the system so the LED comes on the mainboard

LED on the mobo? I don't recall seeing any LED on the actual board?

Yup, checked all this but still no change..just kicks the fans over and thats it's. Can you check the PSU with a multimeter? I don't know if the 24 pin acts as a switch to the 4-pin? I.e only +12v when plugged to the board and switched...

Thanks for the replies thus far. I see someone else is having a similar problem on a thread and I@ve tried everything suggested on there

I suppose you cant check the CPU in your other rig then? I would try that if you can.

Did you say you've tried connecting a different psu up? Might be worth a try as well.

Cheers for the help again. Being that my old processor didn't work in the motherboard, my ram worked in the old PC it pretty much suggested that it was PSU or mobo. Suspecting mobo I ordered another one and, bingo, problem fixed
