i've got a long lounge with windows that although big and there is 4 sets of them, don't let much light in as the frame is a dark chunky brown and my lounge just always seems so dark and dull even on a bright sunny day.

i'm looking for ways to help make the room brighter naturally so open to suggestions.

one thought was that as i've got this rusty old fuel tank outside one of the windows which leans from the window going out and up, i could cover that in a shiny material, even just sheets of metal which would reflect the light into the room like a mirror. would this work? if so any suggestions on what to use?

any other ideas?

not looking to spend a fortune so can't replace sofas etc. most items in the room are light, the sofa is white etc, desk light brown.
