DVD Output Settings

Curious.........If you had a DVD player with HDMI output and 1080i or 1080p upscaling and your tv can upscale anyway, what output setting do you select on the DVD player ?

A mate has the 37PX80 and a DVD player that can scale to 1080p, but Panasonic's v-real 3 engines are suppose to scale internally

Whats the advice on this from those in the know ? I've not had time to pop round to help him, just wondered

Output 576, 720 or 1080 ?

It all depends on the TV really.

Some TVs upscale better than DVD players (i.e. Pioneer Kuro range), others are maybe not as good.

Best way to go is to let the TV upscale and watch the results, then get the DVD player to upscale (having turned off TV upscaling) and see which you prefer.

If you have an HTPC, you can often get the best results by using ffdshow to do the scaling and some post processing on the image.
