Just noticed that i've been plugged into the DVD-I socket instead of the DVI-D socket for the last couple of years , does it make any difference having the extra analogue signal from the dvi-i socket on a standard flat panel such as extra line noise?

Or does it make no difference at all?

HDMI is pretty much the same as DVI except it can carry sound, they both are electrically the same.
DVI can carry sound too, it's just not that commonly known as hardly any monitors with built in speakers had the wiring to take sound via DVI. Hence why you can use a DVI to HDMI cable to hook a PC up to a TV and the sound works.
