DVI-I Male to VGA female adapter. Monitor type not recognised by PC.

Hello.

I'm using an old Nvidia GeForce 6600 graphics card with two DVI sockets. I've used a DVI-I Male to VGA Female adapter that came with the card to connect to my Acer monitor. Now i'm trying to add another Acer monitor (and older, smaller model) to the second connector to create a Dual Screen setup.

I ordered a cheap DVI-I to VGA Adapter just like the one i've been using for the first monitor, but the PC doesn't recognise the type of monitor and so it doesn't let me use the best resolution settings for it.

I've tried swapping both adapters round, and the same thing happens with whichever monitor is using the cheap adapter. With the old adapter, the PC can recognise both monitors no problem.

I don't want to order a new one until I know what I need to make the PC recognise the monitor. What should I look for? Is there a solution on Overclockers for this?
