Ok so i moved house a few months back. I sent my registration forms off with my new address. Anyway....i got this letter today dated 2nd Dec but the old address crossed out (gather it sat in the letter box for weeks).

It confirmed the car is no longer registered to me & ignore any future car tax warnings.

I DID get the new registration documentation with my new address before the 2nd of December & they were sent to my new address.

Sounds to me like you either didn't tick the "I'm the same owner with a new address" box or they ignored it. As a result they've treated you as 2 different people, have sent a new document to your new address, a letter to your old address confirming the 'change of ownership' and essentially transferred ownership of the car from yourself to yourself (adding another owner to the cars history in the process.)

The whole DVLA must be rubbished because of this one small mistake. They are all fools and can't get anything right.

I'm sure it was a small mistake which will be rectified easily.

They've done this to me twice. Pain in the arse to get it rectified, took me about 3 months each time. Eventually they reduced the number of keepers but still left my previous address as the previous keeper, which was close enough that I didn't care any more.

I dunno, they managed to get both my name wrong and the fuel type of the car wrong on the new V5 for the R36, despite the fact the original was correct...

Unfortunately, they have absolutely no incentive to get anything right due to their operating model, mediocrity and incompetence is the inevitable result of such a structure.

I have next to no faith in the DVLA.

I bought my e36 back in March last year, dealer I bought it off seems not to have registered it to me.

6 months later, despite hassling the dealer & DVLA, still no V5 and I had a load of hassle trying to tax it minus the V5 but got around it eventually.

nearly 6 months further on, despite letters (including an application for a new V5 and the £20 odd postal order!), phone calls and latterly a letter from my Solicitor, I still have no V5 and they won't discuss the car with me over the phone because it is not registered to me!

Bloody good job its a £900 scruffy e36 rather than something worth considerably more!

Got stopped by the Police early one morning, explained the situation to the officer, including showing him the invoice (showing I bought the car back in March with the dealers details etc), and thankfully,he shrugged and let me on my way!

An utterly ridiculous situation, technically, I am committing an offence by not having the vehicle registered to me despite my best efforts.

Perhaps this should be a thread in its own right!

If the DVLA are that bad, then I imagine the police must have this happen quite a bit and know about it. The fact you weren't wearing a baseball cap the wrong was round and a had reasonable explanation probably made things easier for them however! ;)

I've had a lot of V5's with utter pish on them, be it fuel type (Heavy oil for a 1.8 16v petrol engine, I mean really?), axle type and various other stuff. Colour as well, and no it wasn't a dodgy car. Just DVLA wanted it another colour.

DVLA are the king of the idiots and inaccurate information.

Thats without going into sorns.

My logbook doesn't even have the car model on it, just the make (Nissan)

No idea what's going on there because if you put my reg into an insurance site, the correct model comes up.

I was wearing my Eddie Stobart Uniform, which probably makes me worse than the cap brigade in a lot of coppers eyes! :D:D:D

Never had a single issue myself - given the number of cars on the road a few mistakes are inevitable though

Had one minor issue, similar to /4MNA. Basically bought a car - dealer registered it to me and sent of the paperwork, no V5. 3 months later after a few phone calls they couldn't find it being changed to a new owner. Sent of the little green slip and the form from the post office - recorded. Then got the form back a week later.

It's just one of those annoying things you have to go through.

i had something happen like this to me.

it turned out that because i had put my name on the form you send back to change address, the dvla had registered the vehicle as having a new owner. my v5 also had changed the number of previous owners up by 1.

anyway after getting of the phone to the dvla they sent me a amended v5 and all was ok again.
