Dyslexia or just dumb?

im dyslexic, mainly mudding words, but find reading very very hard.

I have no issues with it, but when nubs on here want polls or correct you i just laugh, what does that prove?

at the end of the day i have a 8.5" you know what - i win :D

I was a terrible speller at high school; I even remember spelling 'chair' wrong once in a spelling test LOL

It's amazing how much my want for knowledge has increased since I left...

It wasn't that I was dyslexic, I just wasn't interested. So you might well of ignorantly classed me as dumb, yes OP :)

Thanks for that - I can't believe how many idiots there are but to be fair I thought the same until I experienced it with my daughter.

Like you said about being good in other areas -
My daughter didn't have help at school or college except for 'answer her questions'.
During school and college she never handed work in that was less than A+ or A, how many of the non believers could boast that?

Well said. I always thought that at primary and secondary school I was just slow/thick and didn’t push myself in English at all because I just couldn’t understand as well as everyone else. I was great at Maths, Science and History.

Went to college and my course head noticed some odd spelling/grammar mistakes his words not mine. To which he asked if I would mind sitting a dyslexic test I said yes why not thinking still that it was all just me being thick nothing more. Well the results came back to show I was dyslexic and both my schools hadn’t picked up on.

To be honest my life from this point changed as I pushed myself to try and better myself. I just wish I had some of the dyslexic special needs training that others had at school because I think that I would have been miles ahead of where I am today.

I mean if anyone has an advice on telling a dyslexic person how to spell better and generally improve English I'm all for the help as I hate seeming stupid when I can’t spell a basic word or I type a sentence and re-read it to find 12 mistakes with words like me and be or is, in and if all being used incorrectly or in the wrong place.

One of the members here who used to be my flat mate was a great help for improving my English ability. As like 5 years ago writing a standard email was tuff for me some people might laugh but honestly I would write something and then look back proof reading it saying to myself what the hell did I just type :D

The long and short of this whole post is if you don’t fully understand what dyslexia is you will instantly think a person is slow/dumb or thick. I don’t blame you as I was one of these people and to be honest I wish I had the money to attend some sort of dyslexic tutoring to try and better myself but I don’t have the time or money and also I don’t even know if something like this is common for an adult to find outside of school.

Simple way to sum this up is don’t prejudge people when you have no idea on what you’re talking about. It’s easy to laugh and call someone thick but if you don’t understand how the issue really affects someone then what’s the point in posting it’s not like we will have an icon next to dyslexic people so the grammar/spelling Nazi’s cant correct them is it :D.

I don’t like people that play on dyslexia i.e. just being lazy and saying that they are when they aren't. But I also don’t like people that right everyone else off who didn’t have all the benefits of a good education or not having a disability just because they have a better grasp English/spelling and grammar.

For the people that have good skills in English instead of taking the **** maybe you could spend some time showing the thickos how to spell and get passed their problems for the better of forum life here on OCUK I know I for one would welcome someone giving me free advice on something that seems common sense to them.
