Sorry if this isn't in the right section, though the topic of my post is a motor vehicle, just a 1/10 scale Monster Truck.

The E-maxx Brushless Edition is out, capable of 50 MPH out of the box, 65 MPH if fitted with alternative gearing (supplied in the box). Details are here.

I've seen thisvideo of it on Youtube. The torque pushed out by that bushless motor is amazing!

I'm tempted to get one. I have owned the Nitro versions of the Revo and T-maxx, and whenever I've raced them in public areas, I've always had gangs of kids/chavs (delete as appropriate) attracted to it by the noise made by the nitro engine which can be heard a long way away.

This sounds perfect. Speed, power, and reasonable run times without the noise.

The big downside..... expensive batteries and a £500 price tag :(

What do the other RCers on here think?

Looks good to me. When I had my Nitro Revo over the park this chav came over and asked if it was electric? IS IT ELECTRIC??? Don't the trails of smoke and engine noise give it away!!! I was thinking of getting a brushless Revo as they seem much easier, but I could not leave Nitro!

Thats a lot of money for a Traxxas item.

Not a huge fan of traxxas to be honest, more suited the back yard basher than the racer. Although the design of the Revo is good.

Got a losi 8ight 2.0 myself and a Cen Matrix TR FRE both heavily modded!

+1 for the Losi. I have an 8ight T aswell and love it! :D

500quid ? why would anyone go electric for 500quid when you could get a really nice nitro powered for less?

Although £500 is a lot of money, the performance of this electric truck far exceeds that of any of it's nitro counterparts.

The torque pushed out by modern brushless motors is amazing. Try doing this with a nitro engined truck.

Don't get me wrong, I love combustion engines, but I don't think I'd go for Nitro again. The noise they make is horrible, and they can be a pain to start, especially if used infrequently. If I don't go brushless, I'll be getting one of the new 1/6 scale FG 4x4 petrol monster trucks.

Yeah My RB23 engined Tmaxx will do that no problem even pulls the front up in second gear. I must add its heavy aswell full alloy chassis and arms.
Mind you have spent a bucketload on it
Must say modern brushless motors are great friend have a 7000 mamba in a mini-t and its fast, always be nitro for me though.
I must say I dont do it anymore but used to race 1/8th scale buggies and trucks, but did keep my cars and radio cant bring myself to sell them as I spent so much on them in the first place 3K at least.

Hax - As Banny says many nitro's will pull wheelies, heck even my race breed losi buggy pulls wheelies sometimes (if it gets grip), and its got a race breed .21 engine made to rev, not a .28 torquie engine that is found in most monster trucks.

a lot of getting them to wheely is just down to grip most importantly, power (and gear ratio's) and weight distrubution

Wheelys are just annoying in my opinon though!

Its the way brushless motors deliver their power that is impressive, and because there is so much torque you can gear them for extreme speeds, but always nitro for me, sounds brillant.

Have tried petrol, was big and lumbersome to be honest

I don't really do trucks anymore (have a couple of nitro trucks and previously several electircs) but I do a lot of heli, plane and some boat modelling and brushless motors and lipos have got so good, I don't see any attraction to nitro anymore.

The power i get from light weight batts and motors in my planes and helis is incredibly - quite tempted to do a brushless truck (although don't reckon i would fancy having traxxas again having had a tmaxx, prefer to build myself.)

That's the thing. There don't seem to be many trucks that aren't already RTR available these days. Even HPI don't seem to be going down the self build route anymore.

To be honest, most of the monster trucks from the big players - HPI, Losi & Traxxas seem to be reinventions of previous models - nothing ground breakingly different.

Nitro wise, traxxas must be getting near to releasing the successor to the 3.3 engine. It has been out for over 4 years now without them releasing something better.

Electric has always been my fave.

Only have Buggies myself (RC10B4's [2wd] and a Predator [4wd])

Predator is an awesome piece of kit and was designed by an F1 engineer - though the design's been round about 15 years now it keeps on evolving. Good article on one of the lateest versions:

Not amazingly cheap or easy to put together though - definately worth it. I have the Novak Brushless setup in mine - just fits!

I find Nitro better for infrequent use. After having just binned another £70 of 7.2V packs through neglect I won't be going back to Electric for my general use RC cars. That said I am buying some micro electrics for inside use. Obviously you would be using LiPos which I think are a bit better for storage.

My dabble with Petrol wasn't great. I had a 5B Baja clone and whilst it was awesome on the sand dunes everywhere else it was a PITA if I'm honest. Too big and clunky and if I broke something (which tends to happen a lot due to the weight) it was big bucks. After that I got my HoBao Hyper 12 mini ST which is the complete opposite. Nimble, capable and when I snap a bit I normally get change from a fiver.

Where do you tend to run your cars? The BMX track in Wymondham is awesome when the kids are at school. I only discovered it after christmas and them my pull start broke so I haven't been back, although the car is ready to go again so its just a case of finding the time.

Oh... and not all Nitros sound bad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC-d8PYJj3k&feature=player_embedded :p

When I was really into RC cars, brushless for cars was very new and hardly anyone ran brushless or lithium polymer batteries. I was one of the first to get a Mamba 7800 (i think) and speed control for my Mini-T, I only ran it with an 8.4V NiMH pack though as lipo was so expensive back then, it was also stupidly quick. I must have spent hundreds on that car, by the end of it I dont think much was stock. It would burn through tyres like nothing and was so hard to control because just a tad of throttle and it would spin out :D

I also have a Nitro TC3, which I found much more enjoyable, also never having to worry about batteries and condition of batteries is great, as said, these are a massive chav magnet which is the main reason I dont use it anymore as theres no where "private" to run it.

Where is the Bmx track in Wymondham ? (i work in Wymondham)

I really fancy getting back into r/c cars again - i used to race 1/10 electric carpet cars years ago and loved it - fancy trying out some off road stuff !

Nitro's sound great, my Novarossi .21 P5 with race pipes sounds like a little crosser and pulls like a train, The OS V-Spec with full OS race pipe/manifold used to sound nice, but I sold it (big mistake that was)
Keep meaning to get my buggy up and running again engine needs a front bearing though as it is sucking in a little air, which in turn makes it run a little funny.
Said Buggy is a Lighting 2 Pro but heaviily modified with Kanai 3 parts, 2x fiorini torsen diffs with Ko-propo 2143/2144 servos.

Agree about the chav magney thing, was off putting taking them out, was always worried about getting them nicked as very expensive toys to lose, not hundreds neither, anyone who races will tell you a decent race spec 1/8 buggy is a least a grand plus.
