Looking to get one of these. If I can get it upto about 3gz I'd obviously be very happy! Not fussed about going beyond that!

Are the stock heatsinks/fans upto this and reasonably quiet? Or should I (without spending to much) be looking to get a different heatsink/fan?

They're quiet, but as you know you won't be getting the best temps.

Should be ok. I'd suggest trying it and then getting an aftermarket sink if it's not up to snuff :)
I'm aware a lot of the aftermarket heatsinks for the C2D are obviously quite a large affair. Do they use back plates? Or do they just go straight onto the front of the motherboard (without the need to remove the motherboard)?

Most need the board to be removed so that you can fit the bolts.

The Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 uses the same mounting method as the stock cooler and doesn't require the board to be removed. Tho it is still much much easier to fit it with the board removed.

Cheers! That's cooler I might get (Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7) - It's cheap and seems better/quieter than the stock ones from what I've read.

I can't even find a picture (or even a review) of the stock heatsink/fan?!?! Shame! Can't even find out what fan size it has!

The E2200 has a low profile heatsink, the fan should be the normal stock Intel one.

Is that about a 60 or 72 mm fan or something? Looks tiny!!! :)

Had an E2200 for a while, come hell or high water I couldnt get it to 3ghz. Seems to be a thing with that particular chip. All the 2140s/60s/80s I've seen happily get there though. So either go with the latter or save up and buy a 'proper' (shipped at stock) 3gz chip.

And the stock fan with all four of the chips i've recommended runs quietly.
If I bought a 'proper' (shipped at stock) 3gz chip, then I'd only want to just it at 3.5->4ghz :)

Only to come on here and find that i'd wasted 3 hours of pain cuts and bruises (i bashed the wall in a bit :)), because YOU CAN TAKE THE FAN OFF. I nearly cried when it finally went in.

We've all done something like that... We've all been there in some shape or form... :)
