Is it really true that the MPG (according to Parkers Guide) of a 325SE auto is 32MPG which is about the same as a 318i SE auto?

My daily runner is an e36 323i auto (325 bbtb and manifold added, same engine size, so comparable mpg)

It's pretty decent on fuel considering the engine capacity.

Anyways, I usually see 35-38 on a 70-90mph m'way cruise.

Town/Caining round back roads, you're looking at 20-24mpg.

I'd say a combined figure of anything from 26-30mpg is normal for the 6cyl e36 range.

I can get similar figures with my car (728i Auto) so, such figures for the lighter e36 should be easily within reach.

No, it's not. The combined figure will be much less than that - thats similar to the combined figure for a MANUAL M54 engined 3 Series and the M54 is a more efficient, more modern engine.

I would estimate a combined figure of nearer 25mpg for the 325i SE Auto. Whilst its possible to get 32mpg from the 325, this will be a cruise mpg only.

A combination of town driving and occasional motorways gives me 29mpg in a manual 328, so I doubt you'll get that good economy in an auto.
