E5200 heatsink + fan onto a Q6600

Hey guys, in a bit of a mess moving a Q6600 from a brand name computer into a home made system.

The Q6600 heatsink and fan as far as I can tell is not a normal intel combo? It has actual metal screws, which then screws into some sort of braket on the underside of the motherboard - therefore it will not fint into my own motherboard as the holes that the screws go are huge and have nothing to catch on.

I have a E5200 heatsink and fan, the heatsink is about half the height of the one that is currently on the Q6600. I imagine it will run a little hotter but it will be ok as a temp soloution?

Its sitting around 47c at idle, better than nothing! I did try and overclock it for a laugh, 3.2ghz made it shoot up to 72degrees rather quickly at idle!

Any more recomendations for a heatsink and cooler combo? Fan noise being a huge factor in what I buy.

I don't see why using the HSF of the Q6600 into the new PC. Fromt ehsounds of it it seems like it should, after all, LGA775 is LGA775. You sure the screws don't go in the opposite direction too?

As far as I could tell, the bracket seemed to be stuck onto the (bottom) motherboard.

The brand name of the computer starts with D... :p

Are any of the fans which attach onto these aftermarket heatsinks actually as silent as some claim?

it will be fixed with a sticky pad ,it should prize off ,if your not worred about keeping the old mobo put a screw driver between the 2 and lever off

Indeed it may come off with some brute force but I need to keep that motherboard working. Even if I get it off (and assume it fits onto this asus board) as far as I can tell the e5200 heatsink is never fitting onto that board, the screw holes are far to big and it has nothing to catch onto.

I am happy with the e5200 using the rigged (D... brand) q6600 cooler and buying an aftermarket cooler for the q6600 which is now on a sane asus board.
