E8400 or Q6600

I'm in the process of building a new system to replace my ageing P4 3.0(ic7max3/1.5GB Pc3200) system. At the moment I have a few components for the upgrade.. Gigabyte ga-p35-ds4, 4gig crucial ballistix pc6400.... but i have been having second thoughts about my processor choice. Up until now I have been looking at a q6600 but now i am starting to think more along the lines of an E8400. OS choice is another thing i haven't settled on. At the moment I am using vista 32bit but i was also considering vista 64bit....

This system will be mostly used for photoshop, word, excel, dreamweaver, newsbin pro, burning dvd's & cd's,

What should i go for?

are you running a 32 or 64bit os?
