I assume that setting up email is much the same on most phones but I've never done it.

I want to get the headers from my ntlworld acount and have entered the settings as follows:

User name : [email protected]
Email address : [email protected]
SMTP server : smtp.ntlworld.com (that set itself up somehow)
SMTP port : 465 (set itself up)
Connect to POP3 server first (tick in the box)
Protocol type : POP3
POP3 Server : pop.ntlworld.com (set itself to pop3.ntlworld.com but googling says it's supposed to be pop.ntlworld.com)
POP3 Port : 995 (set itself)
User ID : [email protected]
Password : mypasswordandnoitisnotthis:p
Use SMTP authentication : no tick
(then some sub menus for SMTP as follows)
Same as POP3 : greyed out as no tick in above box
SMTP user ID : greyed out
SMTP password : greyed out
APOP login : no tick in the box
Include attachments : greyed out
Email retrieval limit (1-100) : 30
Secure connection : On

When I ask it to check for email it gives me a connecting message and then after a while says "disconnected from server" but hasn't retrieved anything.

What am I doing wrong?

hmm what error message are you getting and are you sure the ports are set right because it automatically changed the port numbers for me when i was configuring mine and had to change it back manually.

When I ask it to check for email it gives me a connecting message and then after a while says "disconnected from server" but hasn't retrieved anything.

I have a sneaking suspicion it may be an error in the password entry, I can't get a decent reception in my lab, I'll pop outside to see.

Hmm still didn't get my email.
I get the "connecting to server" message with the orange and white "barbers pole" graphic underneath it. That stays on screen and then 60 seconds later I get "disconnected from server".

I have double checked all the settings are the same as you've posted but still no joy.
