Hi, Ive decided (been allowed by the wife) to buy myself a new monitor as an early xmas present. Ive got £200 and I am very tempted to go for the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-051-IY&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat= Illyama 24inch currently 160 notes. However it has been sugested that this monitor is perhaps not the best for what I do and I would be better off getting a 22 inch with a better spec.

I use the computer for on-line gaming mainly and web surfing. Looking a the specs it all seems quite good (2sec response time etc etc) but I guess it's all about the Contrast ratio. Does anyone own this monitor and if so what is it like? Is 24 inch to big for gaming and I should go with a 22 inch?
My sepcs (if needed) are a Nvidia 275 with a Q6600 @ 3.2, 8 gig of ram and windows 7 on the way but currently using Vista 64.

Any sugestions very welcome.
Thanks :)

No monitor is too big for gaming, as long as it is that a monitor. I have got a larger monitor I play games on, but I wanted a second to replace my 17" Dell.

In your price bracket the Dell 2209WA 22" would be the ideal monitor for you to buy looking at the reviews. I should recieve mine today. If gaming is your main concern now will it be in the future? As a monitor will stay with you through a lot of upgrades.

But if gaming is main thing then a TN panel with a low input lag and the higher the better size wise should be the way you should go. The Iiyama looks ok for this they used to make really good crt screens don't know what thay are like now though TFT wise.

Buy the best you can though as money spent on a monitor is money well spent.

COD Modern Warfare2, COD World at War, BF2, and some other older games, Unreal, Farcry etc etc

Just for fun, but it is a serious hobby and I spend a fair amount of time gaming.
Thanks,
p.s. upgrading from a very cheap 19inch tft. :)

Not many people strumming this banjo - hey!

TheBizness raises some interesting points but from what I hear of Banjoplayer's on-line gaming prowess, he regularly uses lag as an excuse for his (lack of) performance. Seems a shame then to rob him of that excuse if he upgrades to a panel with low input lag :D

Yeah, it's on display at the currys I work at, and I must say it feels very well built and looks very nice (not plasticy), and image quality looks very crisp, but haven't been able to play any games besides minesweeper etc on it so can't comment on input lag or high res quality.

well i ahve been looking at this one Samsung SM2443BW 24

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-100-SA&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

its £250 but can he had cheaper and its

Viewing Angle (H/V): 170°/ 160°
1920x1200 Resolution

wheres the hp on posted in here is

Viewing Angle (H/V): 160°/ 160°
1920x1080 Resolution

I was going to go for the the Dell UltraSharp U2410 or HP LP2475w 24 as i did not mind paying £430 but there seems to be just to many problems with the dell and only a small amount with the hp but i dont want to take a chance on them just in case as £430 is a lot to pea away.

so i have been looking at the Samsung SM2443BW, i know it does not have the higher quality ips panel these dont have any of the problems as the dell and hp but do suffer from angles but seen miy mates and if you sit in the centre its fine.

its a shame about dell and hp as thet have lost my custom becasue of there problems i am wating to see what a person who bought says about the hp and if its ok i might chance it if not its the samsung for me untill they can bring a apple type display at the £430 mark as i loove the apple displays there top quality but coast £600

Yea I was too looking at one of the Dell Ultra sharp monitors but just can't afford to pay that kind of money.

I am not too bothered about viewing angles as I sit in the middle and its only just for games.

I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to get the LG W2486L 24"

http://www.lge.com/uk/it-products/monitors/LG-led-monitor-W2486L.jsp

The reviews were a lot better for gaming and with 2ms response. I also like the matte finish more than the gloss.

What do you think of the LG screen?

Hi that's a 1080p model if that's ok, but was looking for a 1200 monitor, I know lg make the ips panels for the dell, hp and apple which are the best ips panels when you get a good one but I don't Know how good there tn panles are.

Here's a lg with

170/170 viewing angle
and 1200 res

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-078-LG&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

I know it's 5 ms but know one seems to complain about responce at this spec for movies and games, but likei said I am not sure how lgs are for quality

Hmm another good looking monitor!

Do you think I have got the best money can buy? I can spend upto £250 and at the minute my choice is the LG W2486L.

I basically had to choose between the LG W2486L / HP 2509m / Samsung 2233rz-Samsung T240HD- Samsung XL2370.

What do you think?
