Eating breakfast at work

Why would making breakfast at home not be viable? You'll always have more breakfast making facilities than you would at the office and breakfast is usually pretty simple fare.

Because in the 30 minutes between me waking up and leaving the house to embark on an hour and fifteen minute commute, I have a shower and get dressed. If I eat during that time, it is rushed, and I feel sick during my commute.

As I am not hungry when I wake up, getting up earlier so that I had time to have breakfast at home isn't efficient use of my time in general, much better to have my porridge whilst doing my work.

The office I work at has free cereal and fruit in the kitchen/lounge area so never had an issue with others having breakfast in the office.

If I don't go home for lunch then I usually eat at my desk and can work while I eat so I assume those eating breakfast in the morning can also work and eat at the same time.

In your opinion. Your boss is probably thinking "look at that lazy sod, eating his porridge here rather than getting up 15 minutes earlier", I know because that's what I think about the guys in my team who do it ;)

Most people/bosses just don't care though. If it really is an issue then something will be done about it.
I get into work 30-45 mins late every day without fail and I eat my breakfast at my desk when I get in. Bit of a **** take? Yes. Do I/my boss care? Nope! This doesn't mean I don't do my work well or slack though.... I more than make up my hours and probably the most hard working person in my team.

Thank god you are not my boss...

I am contracted to start work at 8.30, I get up at 6 - 6.15am, get ready and out the door by 6.50ish, in work for 7.30ish.

I just can't stomach the breakfast first thing, literally need to force it down so I don't bother. When I get into work I will make a brew and start working. Around 8.30ish I get hungry so depending on what I feel like will eat fruit, cereal, fry up some bacon.

I may think differently if I started work at 9am, only had 10 - 15min commute but in this day an age these are very few and far between!

Slightly off topic to the breakfast...but why don't you get up 30 - 45min earlier? This would really pee me off...fair enough being late once in a blue moon, but almost every day?!

I refuse to wake up before 7am :D

Well to be honest I've kind of unofficially changed my own starting time. I'm meant to start work at 9am but because I'm always working late then it's seen to be OK for me to get into work later.

Having breakfast before I leave AND trying to get to work by 9am would mean waking up at 6am or something :/

Used to wind me up as well, as its not like I could sit there surfing the net for hours whilst these chumps fill up on calories.

Anyway i used the old saying 'cant beat em, join em' so come one Friday I bought in Eggs, Bacon, Beans, Sausage, Bread and a little gas stove, put it on with a frying pan and just sat there saying im knocking up a breakfast.

Then a manager came in, and health and safety laws ensured that my endeavour proved 'fruitless' or 'Baconless' in this case.

Lol OP, you'd love my work. Every Friday lunchtime we go to the chippy, get a huge order and ~10 of us sit down and munch away in the boardroom. Occasionally the MD will join us, which is great, because then lunch is on the company. Whenever it's someone's birthday, leaving, getting married, etc. we get a few bottles of champagne in and some cakes, maybe a nice big collection of deli food, and sit in the boardroom and eat and drink.

The fact that most of us have lunch at our desks and work through our breaks every other day (by choice, not because we're forced to) might have something to do with the fact that management have no issues whatsoever with it - after all, if you give something to your employees, they'll give right back.

Maybe you just need to chill out a little?

I eat my breakfast at work too. At half 6 in the morning I simply don't want to eat, as it will be 6 hours until I eat for lunch. Whereas I leave having my breakfast until half 8/9 in the morning, when I am at work. Then I start my intake of food for the day.

I remember reading somewhere (health magazine) that you should have a routine for meals. I certainly don't have breakfast at 6:30am on a weekend, therefore why should I have it at that time during the week?

******* disgusting! It's detrimental to the British economy!

My old boss was like that. Thankfully the last two places I've worked at realise that their employees are people as well as drones who perform tasks.

I personally can't stomach more than a small piece of fruit within the first couple of hours of waking.

Having a working environment that is relaxed about these things and doesn't have almost militant-like attitude ups productivity, enjoyment and loyalty, there's been plenty of studies on it.
