I'm after some new PC speakers for gaming and to listen to mainly dance music.
I keep reading threads on here recommending edifiers 1280 or 1700 etc or the wharfedale diamond 9s but they never mention how they compare to each other. I realise I will need a small amp to go with them.

Which would you guys say is better?

Max budget around £150 for the speakers without the amp,

P.S I have a xonar stx sound card.

Cheers

Was set on the diamond 9.1s but then realised the depth is probably to big at 280mm. These are going to sit either side of my monitor against the wall.

I think I need to look for shallower speakers

Found a good deal on the edifier R1850DB (£50 off) so gone with them. I can add a subwoofer to this model later.

They are a bit shallower than the diamond 9.1s.

I was set on getting separate speakers and amp but then realised I hadnt been considering the depth of them on my desk.

i wanted the option of a sub later so would have had to get the smsl ad18 amp with a pair of speakers.

Ive took the plunge of the edifier R1850DBs as it was a great price. I can always return them if they arent great but unless you can hear both options you will never know i guess.

Looking for a sub now, seen a Wharfedale Vardus VR8 for a good price second hand. Hard to find any info about it though the specs seem similar to the diamond 150 but it downfiring instead of front fireing.

Looking at subwoofers a bit more now and a couple more alternatives to the Wharfedales

I can get Rel Quake and T-zero 2nd hand locally for a similar price, the T-zero is lot newer maybe just 2 years old but is it better than an older and little bit scratched Quake?

From what I can see the Quake has more settings on the rear.

This is only for a pc desk in a small room so I dont think I need bigger.

The edifier R1850DB have a 3.5mm sub out connection, I assume that will connect to the low level or is it the pc connection on the rear of the sub?

Cheers

Ok thanks for the info, the edifier arrived today and I pick up the Quake later tonight.

Ordered a couple of leads to link to the sub, a 3.5mm to 3.5mm and a 3.5mm to RCA. The leads wont arrive for a couple of days though ☹

update.

Got everything set up last night, sounding really nice, still playing about tweaking the Quakes volume & crossover to get the perfect sound but it seems to depend on the track being played.

The Edifier R1850DB speakers are very impressive, very loud and clear and had a reasonable bass themselves before i added the Quake sub. For the price £110 they were a bargain.

The sound quality is in a different league to the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s which have been replaced.
