** Edifier S550 ** The Z5500 destroyers!

I'm still using a set of Logitech Z680's (5:1's, replaced by the Z5500's), would certainly be tempted by the Edifier S550's, although digital input(s) I think would be necessary...

Yes agree that's the only thing putting me off changing my Z-5500's for these S550's... Waiting for them now to update them to a digital version... Which i'm sure they are reading what customers want and the only reasons they are being put off buying these...Is the lack of digital inputs. Once you go Digital it's hard to go back to the analogue way... I'm sure they sound great on analogue and the reviews clearly state they are great and even better then the Z-5500's for sound quality and even the build quality of the speakers looks amazing to me...

Also waiting for Logitech's update of the Z-5500's to see if they are any good too.. but knowing logitech and their plastic fantastic speakers... they will be again plastic sats... and I'm not buying speakers again that are made of plastic... grrr ... Nothing against the Z-5500's they are well made and look nice but anyone will tell you a plastic speaker case is no match for a real wood case for pure tonal heaven.

But if I didn't have my Z-5500's and was looking for a set of 5.1 speakers for my pc today, my money would be on the S550's ...

Had my z5500 for 2 years now. Best speakers ever, I could shake the floor of the apartment and get evicted from annoying the neighbours they're that good.

Although I see overclockers don't seem to sell them any more.

Looking at the above photo's, I much prefer the design of the satellite speakers and the control pod on the z5500.

look good, i imagine they do sound better by the looks of them, seem good value for money, shame about lack of hdmi but if your only going to be using these with a pc then i guess thats not a problem

Hows everyone getting on with these, my old speakers are just about dead and need replacing. Also what sound card is everyone using with these?

I am looking into these, my logitech z5400's are looking pretty shabby and constantly the display pod keeps breaking till I re plug them into the mains.

So yerr, I will probs still use my QAcoustic 2020's for the front 2 but be nice to get some 5.1 again.

Given their target market is people that probably care a little bit more about sound quality than you're average Joe, do you really want the speakers themselves performing the role of DAC? I think not!

If this set had similar inputs to the z-5500s then I'd have probably ordered them in a heartbeat. But until they do, I'll stick with what I've got.

Seems a popular opinion (including outside of this forum). Contrary to what you think.
