Heading to Edinburgh next weekend with the GF, and were looking for advice on where to go at the night time. On the Fri were thinking of going Here/ which is a comedy club, just for something different. Then the Saturday sight seeing (zoo, dungeon etc).

The sat night were looking for somewhere nice to eat (indian, italian) and some good bars then eventually a club. Were into Indie / Chart stuff, so any advice would be great. Were staying in the Malmaison, its in Leith i think, but says its a £6 taxi ride to the centre.

There is a really nice indian across the road from the omni centre (well down the road a little) called sheezan tandoori! Always get a nice meal and service it pretty quick! There is also a nice italian on that road but you need to book i think on a saturday!!

There's a few places to eat in the Omni Centre which itself is just at the end of Princess Street - all depends on what you like tbh?

As for drinking establishments you cant go wrong with Rose Street

Would have to disagree. Rose Street can be a nightmare when it gets really busy and some of the pubs aren't that great. It's fine if you want to try a lot of pubs without having to go far, though.

I'd venture up Lothian Road, past the King's, and into Bruntsfield and then Morningside. Yuu can then loop back and go to the Grassmarket and Cowgate before ending up around Princes Street again.

I've got no idea about clubs. I used to go to the Citrus Club and Teviot but I don't know if the first still runs (this was 13 years ago) and the second is for students.

Have fun and don't be afraid to come over to the West and enjoy a real night out in sunny GlasVegas ;)

If you have time, go on a night 'ghost' tour. They really are great fun - me and the BF went on one a couple of years ago and had a real laugh.

We were there in the summer time and planned to do the zoo and the something else on one day but spent the entire day at the zoo - it's really big. The weather was great though and we had lunch there so we stretched it out a bit. Just a warning that you may run out of time.

As for food and drinks - just wonder around. There are loads of places that you will come accross.

Tigerlily is worth going to for a drink. Very high class and expensive but the cocktail list is fantastic.

Its also very close to Centotre which is the best Italian restaurant in Edinburgh imho.

You should also go to The Standing Order, which is a Weatherspoons in an old bank building!

There is ALWAYS someone from Glasgow that feels the need to post something about Glasgow being better

I wouldn't bother going to anywhere near Bruntsfield or Morningside (i live at the top of Morningside) there is no point in going out of the centre of town and back again in one night.
Rose Street pubs are ok, i'd recommend George Street if you are after a decentish place. (I also like the vodka bar on George VI Bridge)
Clubs i am not really up on but the Citrus Club is not somewhere i'd recommend unless you are into certain music genres.

Ghost tours are fantastic fun, they mostly leave from the Tron Kirk at the top of South Bridge around £7-£10 per person but definitely worth it.

Food recommendations, there are lots of nice places to eat in the area around the Omni centre.

edit: you could also check out my Edinburgh Meet thread (link in sig) for some ideas :)

I personally wouldn't go up Lothian Rd (I live up round Bruntsfield), you'd be heading out of the town and there are some ok bars up there but not worth the distance. Citrus club is still going Saturday nights are ok there with the indie/chart stuff that the OP is looking for. For Teviot you'll need an Edinburgh Uni student card after 8pm or something like that.

Maybe have a look at Frankensteins and around that area some kind of vodka bar near there. Its on Forrest Rd across from the Museum near the Mound.

There are two vodka bars around there, one on Chamber Street across from the museum called Revolution and the other across from the G4B entrance to Victoria Street called Bar Khol. They are both quite expensive but Bar Khol probably has the better selection (massive blackboard with 50+ flavours) and do brilliant cocktails.
Frankensteins is great but again quite expensive.

If you're interested in Comedy I reccomend this place. As for food, the Indian restaurants aren't the best. There are a few decent Chinese resraurants in the New Town, but you can't go wrong with one of the many decent Italian restaurants all over the city. Once you get to town, grab a copy of a magazine called The List, which will have all the club, music, comedy and theatre listings in there. The Malmaison is a nice hotel, just next to the docks, you should be very comfortable there. Definetely check out rose street, which is a long street with more bars on it than you've ever seen before. The Jazz bar on Chambers Street is pretty cool too, if that's your kind of thing.

Aye, thats the ones I was on about. Only been to Bar Khol once and that was ages ago. The places I mentioned aren't my usual places just mentioned them more so for the OP.

Yeah that is fairly decent, but it can get a fair bit crowded easily enough.

*Jazz club*

I've not been to the Jazz club or the bar on the corner next to it but they always look busy when i go past. :) The more suggestions the better i always think.

Yeah thats Biblios next to it. Usually end up there on work night outs for a while before heading somewhere else. Its ok, decent enough prices for a Sat night and you can use a student card til 12.

Suggestions are always good, decent to find out where other people go, just for different tastes and all.

Also there is a cocktail bar near it called Aspen. Don't bother going there.

Also up about the Royal Mile, the Bank hotel and all isn't bad and its fairly central.

These are some of the clubs I used to go to when I lived in Edinburgh, you guys that still live there, maybe you can comment on the state of them now: Century 2000, The Mercado (massa), The Venue, Moray House, The Jaffa Cake (stereo), The Vaults, The Honeycomb (cabaret voltaire)

Massa, not my kinda thing. From what I know of more of a bling bling kinda place.

Stereo. :( (Don't bother) :o

Cab Vol: I normally go there on Tuesdays, its good fun to just dance away like an idiot (good exercise too)

Also I think the Hive used to be called Honeycomb, it's ok sometimes hit or miss, normally don't spend ages in there.
