Earlier this week we drove up to John O'Groats just for fun and back in a day. In summary, it wasn't that great. The route up was better, we went the West Coast route via Fort William and through Glen Coe. The A9 north of Inverness was surprisingly busy and the A99 too narrow to really throw the car about.

In summary, it is nice to have been there but compared so say driving to Skye via the A87, it really wasn't that great.

Took about 12 hours there and back including all the stops. Just over 600 miles.

I wish I had the cash to drive 600 miles just for fun as a student :(

Yeah but you have a nice car instead.

I have the fun of a crap car, and no money :D.

I did a 750 mile round trip a couple years ago, for my mate in York, whilst I was still in Devon...but I took two days.

Two of my brothers (not students) did 'lejog' (as my brother put it), Lands End to John O'Groats a few weeks ago...no motorways for the Lejog, but used them on the way back. Wasted a grand or so on fuel...in a way I'm glad I didn't do it too. :p
