I put up a set of lights around our hot tub area and our neighbour accidentally snipped the wire from next door when trimming her overgrown bush. It's only 3.5v DC so no drama, but when I got out the heat shrink etc to repair it I was faced with an extra wire and I'd appreciate a but of advice on the repair.
Basically I was expecting the chain to have 2 wires and the bulbs to simply be in parallel, however the 2 wire supply goes into the first bulb casing and then 3 wires come out, then it's 3 wires onward, bulb to bulb for the rest of the chain.
The actual break is on the 2 wire supply near the first bulb, but rather than simply reconnecting the cut wires, I'm going to remove the first bulb in the chain. This means that the extra bulb won't be there poking out above next doors bush the next time she gets the shears out.
Do LEDs need another live feed as a switching wire to turn them on, as well as a live current?
I hope this makes sense, thanks in advance.
