Electricity nearly doubling in price

Yeah as I said that will happen if you put them on a pointless E7 tariff.

E9 or E10 is more suited because the off-peak periods aren't all at night. I for instance have a 2 hour period between 12 and 2pm where my storage heaters can charge up...

What do the different tariffs mean? When I got rid of the storage heaters, I didn't think to change the tariff. How do E9 or E10 work out cheaper?

Their previous meter reading was an actual reading, as is the current one.

But seriously? £110 per month sounds right? For one man who lives alone and is usually at work or sleeping? Even taking to account that the heating is electric, I can't believe it can really be that high.

Mine comes to around £60 a month for gas and electricity combined.

Because the off peak periods are throughout the day. Rather than all at night. This allows the clay bricks to be topped up at strategic points throughout the day. So they never run out of heat.

Your situation of having no heat left by the time you get home from work simply wouldn't happen on a E9 or E10 tariff. Therefore you'd not be forced to press the "boost" button (which uses full rate ~15p electric).

It's very simple.

All electric heating is costly but storage heaters, setup right with the correct tariff to match your lifestyle, have the most potential to be efficient.

lol, chucked out the things that saved you money..... then your bills went up, that worked out well.

Its shocking that SO many people with no real alternative use storage heaters to save money but you thought the better idea was to chuck them out AND not change the tarif which was specifically designed for storage heaters.

Yes, they chuck out a lot of energy during the day, but it means when you get back to your house its say, 15C rather than 10C, and its FAR cheaper to raise the temp 5c with storage heaters, than to come home to a 10C house and whack on electric heaters that cost 5 times as much.

If you own the place, do something about it, get it insulated, make sure windows are draught proofed and basically do whatever you can.

Use storage heaters and the current tarif or E9/10, or move to a cheaper daytime tarif as you aren't using the storage heaters at night.

Buy alternative heaters, gas/oil, both will be vastly cheaper, if you use electric heaters, use them sparingly, wear more clothes, etc, etc.

E7 is the most useless tariff. Far too many people get suckered in by it.

It's literally only remotely useful to you if you do a boat load of washing and tumble drying through the night, night after night. Otherwise, forget it.

Basically if you have a load of kids, then E7 can be considered. If you're a celebrity that gets through 4 different outfits per day, then E7 can be considered. Otherwise, don't bother!
