I use a lot of rental cars and many of them have bluetooth phone built in but disabled. The Vauxhall Insgnia I got today has sat nav and all the buttons for the phone but the bluetooth simply does not work or show any settings in the menus. The sat nav works fine. I cant imagine its a hardware thing so only a setting in the cars system.

Is there any hidden menu system which can turn this on or can only a dealer do it?

It's just Vauxhall's cheap and nasty nature. When I had an Insignia, the Aux / USB port was nowhere to be found either, despite having a menu option for it!

It's not an Enterprise thing either, as my boss who had an Insignia previously had a higher-spec model which did have the bluetooth etc

It must be a Europcar thing as I have had the same with a C Class and a BMW 320 recently.
I will highlight this to our account manager as I see Bluetooth as a safety feature and cannot see why they would not let you use it.

It doesn't work because it isnt fitted despite the presence of buttons.

BMWs without phone prep will still have the buttons.

Returning my Insignia from Europcar tomorrow and it also has all the buttons but no bluetooth. The module is actually a purchasable option on top of the Sat Nav so looks like they just didnt spec it on the car.

Complain, you'll probably get a free bluetooth headset out of it :p

As above, it wasn't fitted. Would be a right PITA to fit it afterwards if the buttons weren't there - this way you just need to plug it in. Means it can be fitted as a dealer option rather than only at manufacture
