Hi.
Does anyone know how long it takes whoever it is that sorts it to move me from an emergency tax code on my payslip to a proper one?

Reason being is that im fairly certain ive been short changed the last 2 paychecks because im on an emergency tax code.

Thanks in advance all.

If memory serves it depends mainly on your work getting supplied with the correct tax code and then putting it onto their payroll system, you will then get the correct tax deducted and come the end of the tax year you should get a rebate as required. For me it took about a month I think but it was quite a while ago so my memory is a bit hazy about it. :)

What's the tax code you were on?

New tax year yesterday, so providing you're properly registered your employer should have had a letter from the tax office with your tax code for next year on it. It should be changed by the time you're next paid if that's the case.

I was on BR taxrate, filled out a P46, my next paycheque saw me with a tax rebate and on a taxcode :)

A little help plz

My tax code is 503L

"if you multiply the number in your tax code by 10, you'll get the total amount of income you can earn in a year before paying tax"

So I can earn £5030 before paying tax. Thing is i've been paying £32 of tax each week for the last few months.

Will I get a tax rebate?

Do I need to write to the tax office?

503L M1 is the tax code im on, and my past two paychecks, for February & March have that tax code on it.

So am i correct in thinking that my next paycheck, for this month, will have the new code on it/new tax amount, and that next April i will get a rebate?

See your payroll department. Its their job to do it.

Not *really* an emergency tax code - although it is somewhat unusual. Month-1 usually means you've joined in the middle of the year without a P45, so PAYE is calculated non-cumulatively to avoid paying too little tax (as your new employer has no idea what you've already paid).

If there was a gap between jobs then there's a chance you've paid too much. You need all the info on what you've been paid to find out, and then reclaim from the tax office.

Not really. Next paycheck's should have the 07/08 code on, which is 522L (iirc). It's essentially a clean slate, and you won't get anything back from last year in this year.
