Employer threatening to ban e-cigs...

I'll simplify it for you all.

You work for someone else. They make the rules. If you don't like the rules then quit. No-one is forcing you to work there, you're free to leave.

If you want to make the rules, start your own company.

Recently my boss decided to ban e-cigs despite using one himself. In his view it looks unprofessional when there are important visitors/clients in the building. Everyone who vapes in our building respects that view and haven't whined like a 2 year old not getting a cookie.

..heated up curry at their desks.

At least this smells nice. :)

Not sure what the problem is though, and agree with all said above. Then again, I still don't get why people pay to inhale health risks and increased chances of cancer.

Hate to agree, but this really. If your company has visitors, it's not a great look. No more than a bag of crisps on your desk. If there are no visitors then they're isn't much justification but again it's boss rules.

Banned recently at work here. Only place you can have them is the smoking shelter, though they are putting another small one up so they don't have to e-smoke with the smokers.

That's fair. You shouldn't have to vape with the smokers. We vape I the bike shelter, which looks a bit odd Imo

Exactly - couldn't have put it better myself.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, vapour users are like One Direction and Justin Bieber fans. Ridiculous, hysterical and laughed at by two thirds of the civilised world.

A couple of years and they will have all moved on to the next fad. ;)

I vape in my car. Not worth the hassle of trying to explain to other employees about it. It probably wouldn't be allowed anyway.

....No........they are people trying to use a alternative to smoking that will not guarantee them an early death...

What a silly thing to say.

Hmmmm thought the three month mini-necro might have been an update, but no :(. So I'll ask for one - any update on your crusade, OP?

Seconded.

What's the evidence re: passive effects? Obviously there's not the smoke you get with 'normal' smoking, but do e-cigs mean there's passive inhalation of nicotine? Odours? Anything else which is harmful in the vapour?

This is basically the argument for keeping them in work....

Otherwise, I might as well start drinking non alcoholic beer at work.....oh wait, probably not allowed ;)

My work has treated them the same as normal fags and has also limited smoking breaks to only during your lunch hour. No more 5 minute breaks every hour, and quite right too.

There's no evidence that e-cigs cause any harm.

"long term vaper" and "stealth vaping".

I think it's great that people are making an effort to cut out health risks etc etc but does anyone else find this new slang cringeworthy? My friends who smoke e-cigarettes do. What about those in this thread? Obviously apart from the few who use it every other sentence as if it makes them part of a cool group!
