Employment - Walking to Meetings

I can just imagine employing someone like cliffy must be exceedingly hard work.

Sue them cliffy. Take them to the cleaners mate.

on a serious note. Talk to your line manager.

Reminds me of working at the edinburgh fringe
"my show was cancelled I want a refund"
"ok, let me just check....yes it has been cancelled, and I've refunded you through your originial payment method (we cant change that)"
"what about the the taxi, no-one told us that it was cancelled and we wasted money to and from the venue, and also compensation for a disapointed night"
*facepalms* "The fringe is a third party ticket agency, if the show does not tell us they have cancelled we can not inform our customers." - no customer seems to understand this, they think that we (the box office) runs and manages everything!
I'm sure I also got that ****ed off at a customer I told them that nowhere on the ticket told them to travel by taxi and it was their own choice.

Did you ask them if they could provide transport, or just that you were not goign to attend, and what did they say?
Could you not have asked a work mate? I certainly would have picked you up if you were mine!

surely if you are being made to attend a meeting off site transport should be provide by your employer

They usually only do so it it's further away than your base is from home or if you have to take a lot of gear with you. But in this case it is get taxi and claim the expense as walking two miles in the rain is unreasonable for the OP.

So the generally gist of this is you all would have happily paid for your own taxi and not worried about the cost

Do you not all get hacked off with employers taking the wee,

The comment about me being hard work to employee is very insulting 90% of the work i currently do is outside of my job profile and above my pay yet i still do it and make no fuss. Coments like that are not helpful to the discussion

I'd have asked someone for a lift, gotten a brolley or if it was really bad weather just forked out for a taxi (asking if anyone else wanted to come with to help with the cost).

If it was once in a blue moon I'd have no problem reaching into my own pocket for it, if they expected it on a regular basis that would be different. You're the only one here who knows what work you put in and whether their taking the proverbial or not.

No, because they are not taking the wee.

No, because I've have driven myself. If I had no transport though, yes, I would have forked out the £5 or so to get a taxi and not look like a complete muppet. :)

This is quite possibly one of the most pathetic threads i have read this year so far. Seriously. Makes you realise why so many people end up at dead ends without the funds to even pay for a taxi :/

You have my sympathy, bosses seem to be completely detached from the real world when it comes to scheduling meetings outside of normal work hours, especially off site and I know from where I work trying to get expenses paid for using a taxi would be an uphill struggle.
