Hi :)

I've got this two bar electric heater in my room as there's no other source of heating in here and I was wondering on average how much it's costing me to run this.

It's marked as 1800 Watt on the back and I'm only running it on one of it's two bars, so with the current average cost of energy would somebody be able to give me a reasonable example of the cost to run this thing per hour?

I'm kinda fretting that it's gonna run into the hundreds but as it's minus 10 right now I don't wish to freeze. :(

On the assumption that it is on at half power for the full hour then about 900W which at say 13p a KW is 11.7p an hour.

In reality its going to turn on, get to temp and then turn off for a bit. Try taking a note of your leccy meter and then checking again 2 hours later and then again another 2 hours later. Its not going to be perfect because you'll be using leccy for other stuff too but at least you'll be able to see how much it is changing. From that you could work out the cost of everything you are running.

As a very rough rule you can use 1W costs £1 if it's on 24/7 for a whole year.

1800W
= £1800 for a year
= £150 for a month
= £5 for 24 hours
= £0.20 for an hour

depending on your leccy provider the price can be quite different, im on a prepay meter (just moved in getting it changed soon) that costs me 15p per 800/kwh, we had 2 1500w eco oil-free heaters going for about 3 hours, including tv/ games console fridge/freezer we spend about £3.00. which is ridiculous. same setup the next nite without heaters going (snuggled up in duvet and hot water bottle) 40p for the whole night.

so going on how much you pay for leccy assume that running a 1000w heater for an hour will cost the price of 1000/kwh from your suplier

these types of heaters burn such a whole in your pocket ur better off wrapping up

Sweebs, you've got your units mixed up :D

I think it's 15p per 0.8kWh on your prepay meter and 1000W for an hour is 1kWh or 1000Wh :)
