Energy Suppliers

My tarriff is ending, what's the best option atm?

Email from British Gas (Evolve?) says:
Current: HomeEnergy Fix Oct 2021 ends 31/10/2021 costs £854 per year.
Their cheapest fixed: Exclusive Fixed Energy v4 estimated cost £1025 per year.

Massive hike, is that the same everywhere?

If you were near 15p a unit of electricity then yeah unfortunately.

What happens if you report a higher leaving number than your actual usage to get more in the 15p rate? :O

When i changed they used a "formula" as they put it to agree on my final reading based on my previous average usage over the last few months..... sometimes it can work in your favour if your recent usage was higher than normal as they will ignore your actual reading and use a lower reading that they come up with.

I just switched to Utility Point as well lol!

Meh, guess I need to switch away again... :9

I know prices are regional, but are any suppliers doing anything near this at the moment? this was already a big increase on last year, but I can't even match this anymore!

Never had a supplier go bust on me before, guessing it's a case of wait to switch, but one assumes I will go onto a bad tariff at high cost, so I can then switch away to something better?

I was switched to Scottish Power last year and it was a specific tariff that actually worked out really competitive. I was eventually forced into a new one though and moved.

My contract had early exit fees, not sure if they'd try and hold me to them if I attempt to switch myself, could get messy. I was also in credit probably by about £100, I may let them switch me over and then see what tariff they put me on initially.

My search right now does not find any good ones, and it sounds like it won't as energy prices continue to increase.

The supplier of last resort bit I read says the new supplier doesn't have to honour the pricing, the pricing I'm on ends when the supply switch completes.

I'd be switching straight away, why suffer increased price with who ever you get lumped with.
Because you can't as your existing provider has to accept that you're moving and send readings to the new provider, they've gone bust so that won't happen, ergo you cannot switch.

UP Portal is down now but earlier I managed to download all my statements and take a screenshot of my account credit as there's over £500 in there.
