Energy Suppliers

I guess that is the issue then, my installer as I said partners up with a roofer, so does 50% of the work and the only trade does the other 50%, guess it works well. He did try to sell me a full system, but couldn't come close to meeting the prices I could buy the kit for. The sparky even did the GivEnergy seminar to become and approved installer, which was super kind of him, it was free though. :p
I think you got quite lucky there!

Have you looked at DeeGee?
Not sure they will travel to cumbria from essex.

Seems like there aren't any electricians that are MCS, it seems to be only those who install renewables that bother with it.

Best quote I had from a PV installer is 4995 for a 4.1kw system over 2 roofs (South and west) with a 3.6kwh solax

Haggle. We got 4.5kw with a 3.6kwh inverter installed over two roofs (also south and west) for £4.5k, and I'm positive we could have haggled lower. Obviously if they're packed with business they can be pickier, but a sale is a sale.

Careful with Deege, they offered us a great price, but at first they wanted to sell us more poorer panels, rather than fewer better ones (would cost more to get more poor panels). They also insisted that it would be possible to put some on our garage roof, but there wouldn't have been the recommended clearance levels from the edge of the roof (if it'd fit the 3 panels they'd claimed in the first place). Next they said they'd install 2 3.6 inverters, rather than a single larger one with the ability to take 2 solar rings. They also said that they'd contact the energy regulators after the install to inform them that a system greater than 3.6 had been installed. But legally they have to inform them before, and get sign off. Where we are cannot get approval for anything over 3.6kwh (that is allowed regardless), every local solar service told us not to bother even trying.

@Journey Where did you buy all your kit from? I'm using midsummers website as they have a design tool but they won't sell to me as I'm not trade...

I’m with igloo currently and looking to move to a fixed tariff

does anyone use different suppliers for electric and gas? Is it a headache to sort or reckon just go for a dual fuel supplier?

I got a message from ESB saying it’s time to renew about 5 days ago.
I clicked on it and saw the increase was about 50 a month. So left it a while until I could get around to checking the price comparison sites.
Did the comparisons today and can’t get close to the new contract price. So went in to agree the renewal - and flipping heck it’s gone up another 50 pounds yet again.

Energy prices are almost double if you need to renew.

I saw in the news that prices are increasing. But normally scare stories like that are like 10 percent or so.

What with tax, food and now energy increases … here comes the recession !!

I see so the inverter is different needs to be able to sync up.

Something like this, https://vevor.co.uk/products/solar-...fnH_Tx48_vZ_PVbO4INCG-znRf-AcOi8aAh7NEALw_wcB

so with something like this you hook up your solar panels to the inverter and then it's just a 3 pin plug from the inverter to a socket in your house and your in business?

Actually, found a video on youtube:

For a few hundred could get a fairly interesting project on the go so going to look into this in a bit more detail now.

Big thread over in homes & gardens: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/energy-suppliers.18712884/

Prices have certainly jumped for everyone. Double seems a lot unless you were on a spectacularly good deal before. Mine's about 25% increase.

We have been paying 12.9p per KWh since this time last year, but with the OFGEM cap increase that'll go up to 21p on 1st October. :( Shopping around, the best I've seen is 18.9p/KWh, so not double but still a hefty hike. Most of the quotes we've had literally have been double (23-24p). Ouch.

Yep it's gone up a lot.

Ofgem has given the green light for a price cap increase in October but no idea if energy providers have already started to put prices up to account for this or if it will jump again next month.

Once, I felt pretty smug about fitting expensive LED bulbs, because most people were using halogen or even incandescent bulbs at the time. Since then, I've had to replace them several times because anything over 60w seems to overheat and die prematurely, and the electricity bills have gone up regardless to compensate for any savings I may have made.

I did mine at the start of this month. I was annoyed as all the comparison sights said you will save a minus amount:cry:. I think its anywhere from 25-30 more than last year but I can't fathom why. I thought the cap was much lower than that.
