I paid 560 and it was valued at 750. I would have paid probably up to 2k but what she wanted came to £560. Her wedding dress was only £299 too. She's good to me :D

Had one made by a local jeweller, he picked out the diamond, weighed it then said it's £x per carat so this will be £y, then they made the ring and mount for not a lot more on top at all.

Was so little thought they undercharged me when I came to pay for it!

Paid around half what they were going for in a high street jeweller at the time.

I'm not too fussed on Steve's ring (ooh er), I'd prefer it with just the lone stone in the mount and plain sides, but that's just personal preference :)

Had one custom made without any input from the g/f, think it's just under 1.5ct with platinum ring and 'similar' to the classic Tiffany setting. Gorgeous ring if I do say myself :)
Dread to think how much it would have cost on the high street. But worth every penny seeing as the wife loves it to absolute pieces and always gets compliments on it.

I heard its a rule of thumb to spend the equivilant of 3 months salary on a ring.

Blooming stupid if you ask me :\

Thats without the wedding, honeymoon etc

Then you have to sort a house left.

In this day and age getting married costs way too much.

Id much rather agree to not go silly, and save the money for "living your lives" together.

Not that i'm getting engaged anytime soon. But out of interest to all these people saying "Don't buy on the highstreet!!!111" Where exactly do you buy one from then? And how can all these custom made places be found?
