England Squad Announced

LOL!!! :D

1311: Breaking news: Carlton Cole has been called into the England squad for Wednesday's international friendly against France as cover for injury doubts Andy Carroll and Gabriel Agbonlahor, the Football Association has confirmed. So, still no Kevin Davies. It's all a little bit odd, isn't it?

Wait, in June we got humiliated and needed to rebuild so we pick players that dont even feature in the first team regular.

Pick 25 England players that have played 10 games for their clubs first team.

hmmm I cannot see where the goals are coming from even if we manage to get the ball in key areas..

against FRANCE who have a point to prove, a win looks fairly optimistic atm

Robbie Fowler scored a hat-trick at the weekend for Perth Glory maybe he'll get a call up from Capello to come out of retirement.

Updated squad:

Foster (Birmingham), Hart (Man City), Green (West Ham);

Cahill (Bolton), Gibbs (Arsenal), Jagielka (Everton), Lescott (Man City), Richards (Man City), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Smalling (Man Utd), Warnock (Aston Villa);

Walcott (Arsenal), Wilshere (Arsenal), A Young (Aston Villa), Gerrard (Liverpool), Barry (Man City), Johnson (Man City), Milner (Man City), Henderson (Sunderland);

Bothroyd (Cardiff), Carroll (Newcastle), Crouch (Tottenham), C Cole (West Ham).

Bothroyd was total waste of space from what I've seen of him (not seen him at Cardiff), literally the worst Premiership striker of all time I can think of and totally out of his depth at international level. I'd have taken Davies instead.
Don't understand the absence of Parker, surely he deserves his chance more than say Henderson? Arguably Nolan could have a case too.
Smalling bit of a surprise given how few games he's played at the top level.
Could possibly make a case for having Downing/Lennon in there instead of Walcott.

And thereby more than likely has greater technical ability (i.e. what's required at international level) than the rest.

We all knew it, and Capello can disguise this as experimentation but he too will know the quality and skills just isn't in this country. Who he picks is largely irrelevant.

So's Carrick, your point?

Good players get overlooked at smaller clubs, players who have played a handful of first team games for a big club are all of a sudden being considered for the England squad.

Obviously, this is nothing revolutionary but it's a shame really.

Barry over Parker, what sort of logic is that?

THIS!

lets also not forget that Ryan Shawcrpss despite being 23 and has been playing regular first team football in the prem for three seasons and the CAPTAIN of stoke city still cant get in the england squad over smalling who has hardly even played for united.

Typical

and its not just Shawcross there a number of good english young CB to pick from

Jones from blackburn
Cahill from Bolton

to name just two

But it goes that players playing at top clubs will have European experience. That's very necessary for international level in my eyes.

Please, I doubt the guy would be able to last five minutes at international level.

Only reason Smalling is in is because he's at Man Utd.

In fairness, Smalling seems fairly decent from what I have seen of him so far, but its hard to tell.

Its quite a sad looking team to be honest, I think Capello has just lost the plot and is picking random players hoping they will shine on a big stage, but we all know they wont :(

Shawcross probably wont ever get into the England squad, he's a thug and a bad defender at that.

I would like to see Cahill being given a chance - not sure Shawcross is upto it though (just to be obvious, Im not sure Smalling is either even though he has looked good so far at Utd)
