We were never in the title race just different games at different times made the gap look smaller now and then. I said we'd never win at Blackburn, though had we not played a completely unfit team we might at least got a point. Nasri has looked shattered in half his games in the past couple months, something is seriously wrong with his match fitness as its rare he can run full pace for more than 10 minutes in a game at the moment. Vela, RVP clearly aren't match fit.
Again we played a 4-5-1 and again we created smeg all, again RVP got almost none of the ball in their final 3rd as people forget was the situation before he was injured, even more so against better teams, and Blackburn at home count as a half decent team.
Eboue was one of the most effective players we had today, has more energy than anyone and the best fitness in the squad, can play offensively or defensively so arguably would fit in anywhere in midfield. So he was the only midfielder to go off and we left the useless Diaby and Theo and the having a very poor game Nasri on?
What was the point in bringing on Eduardo, we'd not got the ball in the box or given our striker any posession in the final third, how was another striker going to change that, the ineptitude in midfield could have changed the game, putting one non match fit striker on for another wasn't going to do anything.
Same old crap from Wenger, ignores the obvious, learns nothing, plays Diaby constantly and sticks to a system that has not worked a single time this season. Our 4-5-1 actually plays more like a 4-4-2 against crap teams we dominate against with one or both our wingers pushed WAY up the pitch and not really bothering to come back. Against teams that pressure us our striker is completely isolated and we don't have the pace in our wingers(or the quality when it comes to Theo) for them to be effective when playing so deep in the 4-5-1.
Countless games we've switched to 4-4-2 at the end of a game to draw level or in a panick when we're losing, its worked more often than not, doesn't that pretty clearly suggest we're better in a 4-4-2?
I'm starting to think that, what Wenger was credited with when he came to Arsenal, turning footballers into athlete's, bringing pace and agility into the side, sorting out nutrition, making us true professionals, that was fantastic and gave us a HUGE advantage for years. Anelka, Henry, Overmars, Cole, etc, etc. We used to catch people on the break and be a huge counter attacking threat. Thing is these days we have slower players AND the rest of the league has become very professional, even the bottom 3 have uber fast players, take nutrition seriously and can run hard for 90 minutes now.
In that sense the premier league has leveled the playing field dramatically, and now Wenger doesn't have other tricks up his sleeve. Nor does just buying a fast player work, you need a fast and great at football player. Wenger buying THeo's when he needs to be buying Ronaldo types, speed isn't as big as an advantage as it was 10 years ago. Tactically, transfer market, mentality, adaptability he's not anywhere near the best anymore.
EDIT:- I'm still constantly shocked by how ridiculously young Eboue looks without a scruffy beard, he looks about 12 years old when clean shaven.
