I'm looking to buying a road bike so that i will hopefully stop playing WoW & get a hobby that might help my fitness (and marriage :p ).

I don't want to fork out a lot of dosh incase i dont enjoy it. So looking at £300 tops (which i know isn't a lot).

Looking at new bikes, Halfords sell Carrera Valour's for £279 (from £419?).

I've had a look on the auction sites to see if there was anything half decent near me, which came up with 2 or 3. I think two of them will have a fairly high reserves, the only cheap one was a Carrera Virtuoso (currently £56) which got i've read has decent reviews.

I've looked about the local free-ads webby and found the following:

- TREK 1200, 27 speed, road race bike, Tiagra gears, Armadillo tyres, £280 ono
- SPECIALIZED Allez road bike, 10mths old, brand new tyres & Tiagra brakes, £200 no offers
- SCOTT Aspen 18in frame, vgc, £195.

From what i've read all of these are pretty decent bikes? A Scott would be nice as that's my name  :D I was wondering if there were any keen cyclists on here that might have any suggestions on either the above bikes, or maybe something else?

Thanks in advance
Scott

I have a Trek 1200 with Trek 1500 wheels and chain set. It's nice and light and is a good looker. Feel's soild on the road to.

Just go to your local independent bike shop. Not Halfords.

Usually the smaller the shops the better they are, as a rule. And go with a budget. Get the best frame you can afford followed by the cranks and deraileurs. You get what you pay for £500 is probably a better budget.
