Forgive this mild rant, but It was my brother's birthday yesterday and we decided to go to a local all you can eat Chinese restaurant. We go there every year because he likes it, but the food has been questionable in the past (I've refused to go the last few times because of it). Well like an idiot I thought I'd go along and try again. I wasn't feeling particularly hungry so I "Only" had two plates of sweet and sour chicken and rice...

I didn't feel too great a few hours later when we got home so I went and got some sleep, only to be awoken by horrible stomach cramps, muscle aches and the other "associated" symptoms of a bad stomach. Seeing how this is EXACTLY how I felt when I misread the cooking instructions on a £1 microwave curry and managed to half cook it I'm convinced it is something that I've ate, and since nobody else in the home has stomach problems (but they've eaten exactly the same meals as me) I'm guessing that it has to be the restaurant.

To say the least I'm rather annoyed at this restaurant and wanted to know if anybody out there has some advice how to try and chase this up (assuming that it is even worth it)? I'm not after a free meal or anything (believe me, that is the LAST thing that I want), but I wouldn't mind some sweet, sweet revenge if possible?

If you're after revenge, call environmental health, your local council, and even a no-win, no-fee wotsit for compensation... Think you ought to be able to prove it somehow..?

Environmental health, a lot of the all you can eat ones are very unhygenic.
Our local one has been shut down many times.

Also, drink plenty of water and invest in some haemerroid cream (you will need this at a later stage when you've crapped yourself into a bloody mess and it's agonising to sit down let alone poop or wipe)

I had it for two weeks and didnt feel right for a month. Trust me it aint nice. I didnt eat for 5 days and just drank water. Best thing is to goto your doctor

Two weeks? Blimey is that then still food poisoning?

Every time I've had it, I've felt dodgy for maybe 8 hours and then the body empties itself in as many ways as possible... Which tends to be complete after an hour or two...

If you genuinely believe that you have food poisoning then speak to your local environmental health officer.

Do what I do. Strip naked and live/sleep in the empty bath for a couple of days. Doesn't matter which end it's coming out of 'cause you just flush it all away with the shower head when you start feeling better.
But seriously, it happens. Just don't go again and spread the word. Reading this has made me feel hungry. Curry it is then!

For all you know they might be defrosting the food on the floor. And you say the food has been questionable before as well. Places like that should be shut down :/

I went to a Chinese restaurant only to see them in the Metro the next day about them defrosting the duck on the washing line :(

Yep, theres loads of different types of food poisoning. You can have it for ages at a time. I never ever ever want it again either

Theres nothing wrong with defrosting stuff on a clean surface if you ask me, I've never had food poisoning from doing it. Whatever I defrost I get out in the morning, leave it on the side and then come back to it 8-9 hours later.
Fridge is just going to take to long, I can't see it being much safer neither.

It's the cleanliness of the staff and kitchen that is the problem.

I'll be contacting environmental health once I feel better.

I am certain that it is the meal that caused it. Without wanting to be too crude, I did go for one last night before everything went seriously wrong and it was business as usual. Just two hours later it wasn't really the same story.

Plus I've reached that brilliant point of feeling sort of hungry, but the thought of food turns my stomach :(.

I had this with KFC Hot Wings once. Both ends all evening and night. Was horrible and I haven't been able to face a hotwing since.
