After seeing thread after thread about coffee and types of machines and coffees and what not ive now finally got around to playing with an Espresso machine that uses real coffee.

I Normaly hate the taste of coffee(ive only ever had instant stuff til now) but on Christmas my nanna got an Espresso maker and i made a coffee with it and my god it was the best tasting coffee of all time!!!

The difference is like night and day, It actually tastes nice and i could drink it, I could taste the roasted beans unlike instant coffee.

So for anyone out there wondering if they should get a coffee maker that uses crushed coffee beans or not i say do it!! You wont regret it

Instant coffee is clearly not real coffee :p

Too true :)

BUT, I lack the effort on a morning to make proper coffee + clean up after one'self and so a decent instant coffee is all I settle for. Proper coffee when I can actually be bothered is much better.

i never used to like instant coffe, but i do because i forced myslef to like it becasue i realised so few people dont like it, and its also good for when i become a working person with late shifts etc

I use an espresso machine and it really is no more hassle than boiling a kettle.

The coffee produced is far superior to instant. In fact I have a large mug of something dark black and Kenyon in front of me now.

Too slow lol.

I don't actually grind beans, as I tend to buy pre-ground from supermarkets. My preference is for very strong coffee so usually look for anything that has strength 5 on the pack.

I don't really have a preference between one brand and another as long as it is uber strong. I do seem to buy a lot of Kenyon coffee.

All you need to make proper coffee is a cafetiere, you don't need to spend tons of money on a machine...

Just polishing off my third cup today. I use the various Fair Trade coffees (pre-ground), and keep it in an air-tight container in the fridge. I'm not a massive coffee snob, so this suits me on the weekends while I have freshly ground coffee during the week. However, instant granulated coffee in comparison is disgusting, putrid stuff.... eurgh, I shudder at the thought.

I got my fiancee a load of ground coffee from Starbucks, the 'six for the season' pack of them, and some caramel and vanilla stuff to go in it, and a little cafetiere, she loves it, and the whole lot cost me about £25... the coffee machines people seem to be recommending might be great but they cost £200!

If you want nice 'proper' coffee you don't need to spend lots of money, people seem to think they can't get good coffee without spending a packet.

I might buy her a grinder soon she can have proper proper coffee.. hmm.

The only thing I don't like about the cafetiere's is that the basic ones are made out of toughened glass or pyrex and lose the heat fairly quickly. In about 30 minutes the coffee has gone too cool and needs to be re-made or microwaved.

I dug out my parent's percolator and I was a bit hesitant in using it, as I'm aware of the disadvantages in the coffee's taste when the coffee grounds are churned up violently with the boiling water over and over again in the space of 15 minutes. However I was pleasantly surprised, the coffee is kept warm all day and it tastes great. I can't tell the difference between now, and when I used to filter it with the cafetiere.

Got my espresso machine from Asda for less than £30. It even froths milk for Late and Cappuccino.

It is over a year old now and is still going strong.

Instant coffee is a crime of convenience. I'd never drink it given the few minutes extra that it takes to make a real coffee.

True. Either get a insulating jacket specifically designed for the cafetiere, or wrap a tea-towel around it (as I do :D). Keeps them warm much longer.
