Eternal Question: Jaffa Cakes - Biscuit or a cake?

Whats the reasoning behind cakes being VAT free?

I always thought it was the staple foods that were VAT free, and as such I would have thought that biscuits were on an even par with cakes in that respect (unless you then start to argue over when a fruit loaf becomes a cake etc and so exclude cakes to make the job easier :D)

Never mind Jaffa Cakes. Here's an importnt question.

What is the difference between a Mint Humbug and an Everton Mint?

A mint humbug is a minty flavoured bug that hums encased in sugary stuff and as for the Everton bit ... Now, the question is, why are they called Everton Mints? Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin. . . the sweets were made by Mother Noblett's Toffee Shop in the Liverpool district of Everton. The black and white mints (reflecting the old Everton strip) were made to be distributed among the fans at matches, and they were jolly popular, just as they are today!

Should be renamed "Jaffa Cracke", though having never tried crack, I'm still pretty certain its just as irresistable once you've had a single dose :p

P.S.... Cake, clearly.

I work for McVities and I can say it is 100% a cake! The story behind it is indeed related to tax. Chocolate coated biscuits are classed as a luxury item so you have to pay tax on them. Chocolate coated cakes are not so you don't pay anything!

We once also had a 12" Jaffa made as part of a competition in work. I'm talking a real one made in the factory, not something someone knocked up at home! We had to pay £1 and guess how much it weighed. The winner got £100 and the rest went to a local charity. It looks nice at first, but after a few days people had poked it and it looked kind of nasty!

right, now that we've sorted that one, i've two ne... Old questions:
Is .9r = 1 (it is btw)
Is a Sandwhich, cut in two, two sandwhiches, or two halves of one sandwhich? (2 sammys)

:D
