Micromart, a UK-based console repair company, is ceasing its repair service for Microsoft XBOX 360 units suffering from the "3 Red Lights fault."

An update on their company page (http://www.micromartltd.co.uk/) claims that "(the) problem is endemic on the XBox 360 console and the volume has made this repair non-viable." They continue to support other XBOX 360 repairs.

Via their "Customer Info" page, Micromart suggests that customers with "3 Red Lights" errors contact Microsoft directly.

(Micromart Ltd has been providing a comprehensive repair service to Games Consoles for over 10 years.)

It is a matter of time i guess before this happens. Would this equates to a brandnew 360 as replacement now?

i would think so

Having said that, how come there has been reports of people getting refurbished units from ms? Or is it just the contracted repair centre playing up?

Is this the company that does the official repairs for Microsoft? Assuming it isn't, this doesn't affect anything really, but it's nice to get some independant confirmation of how bad the 360 problems are.

I was reading X360 mag at work today, someone elses ;) There was a decent piece on failures and their own failure rate at the magazine. There's was a 30% failure rate from the numbers in their offices.

They also said anyone who thought it was down to miss use was deluded.

Yeah, i was wondering that too. You'd think if they were a third party they'd want all the business they could get.

Does anyone else think this situation is going to go 'ballistic' in some manner or other in the near future ? Im not sure how but can things really go on like this (with Microsoft publicly denying anythings wrong)...

Im not anti-xbox (360 is my all time fave console) but that little worrying niggle thats there at the back of my mind every time I switch on my console (No.3) does spoil my gaming fun (just a little mind :) )

i`m so surprised that no one in america has started a court case against microsoft,if the failier rate is so high in uk then surely the us would be even higher, and you know how much they like to sue people and companies..

I live about 6 miles away from micromart and i am a personal friend of the owner keith.
Micromart is a private company and is not attached to sony or microsoft.
They set up in business repairing all consoles sony, xbox and sega dreamcast consoles.
They have tried to repair 360s by resoldering some of the faulty joints but this is not very successfull and for a proper fix you should replace the motherboard.
Microsoft probably will not supply them with motherboards so they can not repair the consoles.

I would say we don't have a high defect rate. The important thing here is that each product that comes out of the factory is rigorously tested. To ensure highest quality for our customer

Why, oh why, does he lie? How high does he think high is, 90%? ;)

Yup ... I'm surprized too at this.

Earlier this year my Sony camera (pictured in sig) started to show a fault in the CCD processing resulting in washed out photos with horizontal lines.
As the camera is nearly 4 years old I thought that was that ... new camera or a heap of money to fix.

Someone in California had the same camera with the same fault that happens on some but not all with the same CCD ... it appears after about 5000 photos have been taken.
Anyways ... he took Sony to small claims court in USA and it was ruled to be a design fault.

I questioned Sony UK about this and they confirmed it was true and fixed my camera for free.

Surely these " 3 ring 360's " could be shown to have been designed faulty too judging by a 30% faulty unit ratio ?

Altho' I don't own a 360 I feel for all you 3 ring victims.

.

What would actually need to be done though in order to get MS to sort the faults out?
What can we who actually have issues do to get MS to a LONG TERM fix to the machines rather than this cloak and dagger marketing BS about there being no problem?
Why is it that blooming marketing and "protecting the brand" come so ahead of keeping your customers happy all the time?
Companies repeatedly think they are bigger than their customers which is just not true, but I think its time that this is brought home to MS in this case.
How would one go about writing a proper complaint on behalf of many rather than just presenting a individual case?
