I'm planning to go on a bit of a road trip in my VX220 with my girlfriend from the 25th to 30th April.

The plan would be to get the Eurotunnel over to France and then take in a route comprising about 300 miles per day (which I think is reasonable?) and see how far it takes us over 5/6 days staying in a different hotel en route.

I'd quite like to travel via some of the iconic roads such as Stelvio, also going somewhere quite warm to pick up a tan but there also needs to be some nice places to stop off for the gf.

Other than that, no real preferences, I'm not interested in maxing it on the Autobahn as that's no fun and the 'ring won't be on the itinerary.

What I would really like would be some routes to choose from, maybe something from companies like Detaglio who put a fair bit of effort into picking a good route.

I'm planning a longer trip.

Starting at bruge, across through luxe berg into Germany, then down to Dachau, then down through western Austria, into Switzerland and lichenstein, down to lake como in Italy.

Fro there I'm going east to venice then down to Croatia, but you could turn back and head home via France.

I'm planning a euro trip for this summer hopefully. I've done it before with my parents in the past. Is southern France too far?

Such a great place to visit, we are planning to go to the Ardeche (spend a day canyoning:D and kayaking down the 20 mile river)

Then onto visiting Port Grimaud again which is a great place for couples. Sort of a mini french Venice, nice restaurants and boat rides at night, which should keep the gf happy.

Onto Monte Carlo which is just an awesome place to vist. Every other car is a supercar, the yachts are ridiculous, the bars and restaurants are fantastic, the shops are good and it's just a great place to drive around with the roof down. There is also the Ferrari workshop up one of the sidestreets which let you walk around the cars while they were working on them!

That may be a little too far to you and I can't tell you if theres any iconic roads on the way there, but those are the places I've been before and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Your brave, that's quite a few miles in a VX220 :p

Last year, I went to Bayonne in the car, fantastic place - right in the south west corner of France so it's quite a long way.

Route Napoleon - particularly the stretch from Dignes-Les-Bains to Grasse/Cannes etc. I realise it may be a stretch, but it's the most amazing road to drive, and also has the benefit of stunning scenery and lovely places along the way. You'll love it in the VX and the GF will love the scenery/tan potential :D

I did a similar trip in an MX-5 and to this date it was probably one of my best holidays ever.

We went from Amsterdam -> Barcelona -> Marseillie -> Genova (camogli/portofino)-> Torino -> Milan then through Switzerland and back via Germany

You can go via a breathtaking section of mountain passes entering Italy this way from france, do it at night and its very interesting :p

We took 2 weeks about it though and were stopping off at friends places on the way, got strip searched at the San Bernado pass though, must have been the Dutch license plate and lump of hash under the passenger seat. lol. fun times.
The swiss customs sent us back to go around their country, but we stayed the night somewhere in Italy and went back through another route the next day.

enjoy, which ever way you go.

So I am doing a similar trip with a week in Tuscany in the middle, and have picked a very similar route to yours. In fact the only difference is that instead of the route back up through France you have after Route Napoleaon, we're going a little more West to drive over the awesome Milau bypass.

Glad you didn't choose to go over the Stelvio as the pass won't be open when you're going! I also see you're going through my home town in Lugano, Switzerland. Bias I may be, but take a moment to stop there and take the ride up to the top of Monte Bré where there is a bar at the top with the most amazing view, which looks a little like this:

Your girlfriend would probably enjoy the Neuschwanstein castle in Germany. It's no to the Stelvio from there either. If you drive down through Germany you could stop off in the Black Forest, there are some great roads around there. Of course if you are starting from the top, it would seem a shame not to call into the Nurburgring on your way down...

Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles are well worth a look, and as they are right next to each other you can easily see both.

There is a cracking road nearby that goes along the shore of lake Plansee just over the border in Austria.
