I was just researching the price of Eurostar tickets for two youths to go to Paris in February and come back the next day... and it comes to £118! How come its so expensive? :(

If thats for both, thats a bargain.

Eurostar is the best way aside from private jet :D to get to Paris.

I travelled by eurostar and it was rubbish. for a brittish train (well, half) its a good standard. But compared to pretty much any opther train in europe, its cramped and small and I didn't even have a plug socket to charge my phone. Unless you're going first class (which is too expensive anyway, you'd need to be looking to waste your money) you're better off flying. waiting times for getting on/off trains are as ridiculous as planes anyway (unless of course, you're the prized 1st class customer)

Ive never been on the Eurostar, so it seems like worth a try... and if you see my Valentines Day Paris thread, its actually working out a lot cheaper to take the Eurostar than to fly :)

If you are under 25 you can get better rates too, and if you don't mind travelling at slightly odd hours, you can get a single (obviously you'll need 2, one to come back) for about £40 each way. Couple years ago you can get as little as £30 each way single to Paris, travelling about midday and leave at 9pm. Because of the hour difference, you'll be back in waterloo by 9:30pm.

It is easy to get on Eurostar, it takes less than half an hour, with much less queing than at airports. You don't get plug sockets for you phone on planes either, in fact you can't even use your phone on the plane! Plus there are no lengthy delay waiting for baggage at the other end and the station in Paris is right in the middle, so no transfers!

I do the London-Paris trip nearly every week and I think it's nearly the best train service in the UK. I can check-in 10 minutes before departure and be in my flat in Paris 20 minutes after the train arrives. Name me a plane service that can do that?

As for the price, well each has their travel limits but I find that it's pretty cheap when compared to some UK services.

If that's £118 for the two of you that's a good deal, remember you will be pretty much in the centre of Paris when you arrive rather than having to get the RER or bus in from the airport.

That sounds like a great price train wise! I'm off to Germany this week and they wanted over £200 for a return ticket (or £106 for 2 singles) just to get to Heathrow! That was booking 2 weeks in advance too... (from Devon)

So instead I'm going by national express for £40!

I swear when I looked last christmas if I booked two months in advance I could have had £30 each way (at odd hours)...

We went to Amsterdam a couple of months ago for our honeymoon.
We decided to go Eurostar First Class (well as far as Eurostar could take us in the direction of Amsterdam) and it was one well fine journey.
The seats were great, really comfy and there was everything there you needed.
The food really wasn't too bad and the wine and other drinks were great too.

It really did make a great start to our Honeymoon and knowing we would be travelling in such luxury again on the way home didn't make the end of the honeymoon too bad either.

I flew to Paris in the summer, never again. CDG is a hellhole, you have to wait around at the airports for ages and you're miles out from the centre when you get there. Eurostar is much more comfortable and although the journey itself is longer than the flight, when you factor in the transfer from CDG and waiting around at both airports it's probably not much longer in total.
